Hello to all,

I just found a blade 400/3d helicopter for sale here in town for $300.

I am assuming it is electric? the seller said he has hovered it a few

times but not flown it out of the pattern. As a begginer who has never

flown accept on a simulator, Is this a good/fair deal for my first

Heli? Are the parts cheap? ETC>>> Any advise is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your help,

Dave

Be careful. They can be found brand new for just under $400. Personally, if the heli included everything and you reasonably believe the heli was taken care of $300 sounds fair, but I wouldn't buy a used one for more that $250. The Blade 400 is a great beginner heli and you'll love flying it.

300 is a pretty standard price for a used 400-3d. It may be more than you want to pay for it, but unfortunately someone else out there will pay it if you don't. Consider what it's worth for the radio set, battery, motor, and ESC alone.

You might want to bring a buddy along to help you inspect it if you don't have much experience with the real things. You know, so you can kick the tires and know what you're supposed to be looking for.

The B400 is a nice RTF starter heli. $300 is a decent price if it's in good shape.

StevenT: Where can you get a brand new one for under $400? My LHS still sells them for $469....then there's tax. I've seen them much cheaper online but then when you add shipping, it's about the same.

spare parts

Thanks for mentioning the spare
parts and stuff. With all the exitement I forgot about
about that. I guess I better start
looking around for some extra parts so when
I do crash it I will have some parts for it.
I just hope I don't crash it the first day I
fly it. Any suggestions?

Blade for under $400

For those who are wondering where to get it less than $400.

Go readyheli.com and add it to the cart, the new price becomes $399.

Jet,

If your new, try Radd's School of Rotary Flight to learn. It helped me and I'm sure several others here used it with success as well. The website is http://www.dream-models.com/eco/index.html

Good Luck.

jet ranger 1 my advise to you is stock on #1feathering shafts!#2main shafts and #3main gear! those are the parts that are flying of the shelf at LHS! that way you be ready to rebuilt and fly again. There will be other parts that will get damage like the servos, fly bar, blades, and landing gear. But those 3 are the ones that I buy extra, so I have my own stock!

Another thing that you can do is get an inexpensive tackle box (about$20-$30) and keep all your batteries, chargers, parts and tools organized and ready to go where ever you go fly!

1- take apart 2-repair damage 3-check everything 4-go fly and crash 5- repeat #1

I feel pretty lucky.. I got mine for 390 shipped from Florida.. brand new.. Thank You EBAY :-)... You will probably have switch to metal gear servos after your 1st few crashes... The stock ones strip pretty easily.. Great heli to learn from.

blade 400?

hello everybody,

Just wanted to take the time to say thanks for all the GREAT Info!

I will definately take 30636086's advice and slowly accumulate the

parts he recommended! Also, I will be checking out the Radds

rotorary flight school as stevenT has mentioned.

Well' after a long 6 hour drive both ways to and from the big town

of HOUSTON, TEXAS with 3 screaming kids having to pull over every

30 mins for a bathroom break, I finaly was able to pick up my new

400!

The guy I bought it from took it to a hover to show me that it would

fly, so at that moment I breathed a sign of relief that I did not

waste $35.00 of gas driving all that way to pick it up.

I have to tell ya'll It is mighty tempting to fly that booger! But,

after reading some of these threads, I think I will just have to

wait and find an instructor to help me. I can't imagine having to tell

my wife that I just crashed $300! especially after her warning me not

to fly it alone. But it is down right teasing!

Well as you can imagine, I have questions galore to ask,

SO EVERYBODY GET READY...

Thanks again for all your help!

Good luck and welcome to the addiction!

Oh and you'll hear people say things like "crash a $300 heli"....or "I don't want to crash my $800 heli..." but you have to remember you aren't completely destroying it so it's not a $300 loss! The average crash on my TREX 450 SE v2 has only been $25.

Anyway, get the sim and get flying!

400

hey skarn,

You definately have a point there, I hope that when that dreadful

day comes that it only costs me $25. But after seeing some of these

$2500-$3000 dollar heli's, I can't even imagine the devastation of

crashing one of those! Like you said, I will be flying the simulator

first and foremost! thanks for the advice...

that will be your first investment other than blades or landingear! but I put HS65MG on mine! I have hit the ground about 4-5 times and those servos seem to be indestructibles! since you bough your heli used it may have been upgraded! But if not thats the way to go! (those are the ones that they refer when they say metal gear servos)

PS to fit them in you may have to file some material off, because they are a hair biger than the stcok ones! but not much. Good luck, be safe, and like they said "welcome to your new addiction!"

And go over the entire heli! check and double check everything! nuts, screws,(look and make sure that they are tight and look for missing ones) main gear(look for damage teeth), your belt(for tension, don't want it loose) and electronics(make sure that they are connected all the way and not loose or half way)

and don be scare to crash because it going to happens sooner or later, but there is thing that you can do to minimize them! and if it happens the damage will be minimal!

One thing that I was told and I'm gonna past it to you now is "you are gonna be a heli mechanic before a pilot!" You will see what that means! But as long as you having fun nothing else matters. And my most expensive crash so far with the 400 was about $30 dollars!(and I got some extra parts)So thats not that bad!

And there is a lot of great guys here that will help you and guide you while learning! these is a great hobby where everyone help each other! You will see!!

Quit complaining dude, your coming off lucky. My 3 year old daughter had to pee/poop 24 times in a 4 hour trip to Florida. I know because my wife and I counted, and it is still a running joke at our house.
