Crashed it a couple years ago and i just let it sit, now want to fix it and fly it again. What changes can i make besides upgrading to the x2?

Orignal batteries didn`t come with balance plugs, will the battery life be shortened by not balancing?

Can i run that Neu motor that i`ve seen on here or is that only for the belt drive?

Suggestions?

Thanks.

The X2 is the only change MA has made other than making it a direct drive and unless you know someone who has the parts you can't do that. The X2 is a great flying heli, lots of gear choices by changing the pulleys. You will have to use totally different battery packs though, the old 5S4P 8000 packs won't work. The X2 conversion comes with all new frames, pretty much scrap the old frames.

The battery life will be shortened by not balancing the packs.

I'm not a Neu motor person, so I don't know which Neu motor you would use. I use an Actro 32-3 or a Scorpion 4035HK. The Scorpion is half the price of the Actro and only time will tell if they are as good as the Actro. They come with a 6mm shaft and with all the MA pulleys being 6mm, that works out good. Finding a 6mm Actro isn't the easiest thing to do, they are usually either 5mm or 8mm.

Convert it, you'll like it for sure.

Hi Scott,

Scorpion HK4035-560 Motor is about $190AU (so about $180USD)

Castle Creations Phoneix 110HV speedy is about $220USD if you look around.

Kontronik Powerjazz 63V speedy is about $415USD but you also need to get the programming card (to set the throttle positions if you don't want to run it in auto mode) are approx $30USD.

Batteries - Outage 6S 5000 are $270USD from various sources.

Hope that helps ya. On my Ion-X2 I am running a 11:47:1 ratio with the scorpion motor + cc 110HV + the Outage packs.

Cheers,
Warrick

Hardcore

Can you fly an Ion hardcore or is it to heavy? Or will the machine not take it?

My level of 3d'ing isn't hardcore, but I have seen Gavin Broadbent from 3D Masters 2007 hammer a ion with no issues. They definately can do hardcore 3d

As for time duration, I would be guessing around 6min?...

Cheers,
Warrick
