JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Kasama Head for V90

Hi folks,

I've always been a supporter of kasama products. My first KSM head was for my R50 titan and it was a brand new heli after that, same for my current Trex 600 Nitro, KSM head makes it ballistic. Recently I bought Vibe 50 head (well not actually complete head since it is not available but the KSM upgrade) and honestly not too much of a change.

Yesterday I received KSM head for Vibe 90 and I was pretty nervous to put it all togheter and have a fly with the best 90 size helicopter of the market.

The first thing that was annoying is that it requires a special lenght flybar which is not supplied with the kit (460 to 480 mm). Luckily enough I had some flybars at home and could fix it up.

Then it requieres 30grm paddles or heavier which obviously are not includeed either but again luckily enough I had some at home.

What really annoyes me the most is that link rod going from main blade leveler to swashplate rubs against the bolts holding washout arms to washout base, then I went to KSM homepage and saw that in the photo they use the red washout arms that comes only with Airskipper 50 Custom Edition (JRH61139) and again there are not supplied with the kit.

This specific part can not be located anywhere in the world so I'm really annoyed. Does anybody know where to find it?

Honestly I'm very dissapointed with Kasama Vibe 90 head.

regards
Antonio

Problem found

I've found the problem.

Kasama Washout base is machined as a mirror image of the original JR part.

Also check photo at KSM webpage washout arms are not aligned with swashplate pockets. Will email GrandRC to let them know.

Quick update,

Well seems that washout base is designed so on purpose and I have to flip washout arms so that binding does not occur.

In this possition washout arms are not aligned with swashplate "pockets" but this seems to be due that KSM head does not need the washout to flex so much than with standard head so the arms does not hit swashplate at extreme deflection.

I'll build it up as suggested by Kasama and will report back but it makes sense I'm nervous again to test fly it !!

Also I'd like to thanks Mr Kasama himself for taking care of this issue personally.

Obiwan,

Any news on how the Kasama head flies for the Vibe 90?

Head is built as per instructions with stock washout arms. In this scenario, I can get 12.5 to -12.5 and 7 deg of cyclic without binding. I've had to reduce cyclic as compared to stock head setup.

With 8 deg, washout arms touches swash at extreme deflection with full positive pitch.

I prefer not to comment until I test flight it which I expect to do tomorrow I'f I can avoid a meeting I have, if not, will have to wait until saturday. My expectation is that this head is very fast so it won't need so much cyclic but I prefer to wait. I'm sorry for the delay but for us at Cisco we are closing our fiscal year and I'm overloaded with work and traveling

First flight update

Well I tested the head yesterday (only for 3 flights)with too much wind, but I was impatient.

My first impression is VERY POSSITIVE, the head is very rigid and the heli is very responsive, I'm using stock washout arms, 460 mm flybar and 30 grms SAB paddles.

I'm not sure if I want to continue using 30 grms paddles since I've been using paddles around 20 grms and less during the last 5 years and the feeling is different. I need to do some testing until I get the right feeling for me because I was flying the Vibe with the flip grip mod, superstubz and 8 degrees at swash.

With these flybar and paddles combination the heli continues to trace the figures perfectly which is something I was concerned about with KSM head. I wanted my heli to be faster but without sacrifying smoothness.

Regarding red washout arms, it is not that easy If I use KSM washout base, then washout arms must be flipped so they are not aligned with swash pockets. If I want washout arms aligned with swash pockets then I should use original washout base but it cannot be used since antirotation pins in KSM head does not fit original washout base.

So I will delay mods until I have some more flights with this head using KSM manual setup because as I mentioned before first impression is very possitive and mods are most probably not needed.

Cheers

Ballistic!!

Folks this combination is the best I have ever flown in my 15 years of radio control helicopters. Of course this is only my opinion and it may be biased since I've always consider Vibe 90 as the best machine out there but honestly I've never flown something like this combination Vibe 90 + Kasama head.

After some tweaking with the rods I'm able to get + 12 - 12 with 8 degree cyclic and this setup is SUPERB. Machine still tracks as Vibe uses to, but response is very fast. She flips and roll as hell, it moves almost as a 50 size machine. Only one gallon of fuel through it so I want to be cautious but so far this is a great upgrade for your vibe.

And I think it can get even better if I use red washout arms or Xtreme 50 arms which fits perfectly. I need to test that but before doing so,I want to have some pleasant flights in the next few days. I'll keep you all updated.

Cheers

By the way, I'm using 460mm flybar and 30 grams paddles as suggested in the manual

Haven't tried any mod to that yet.

I can't tell you for sure from top of my head but I'd say NO. I'll have a look as soon as I'm back home tomorrow.
