Is it ok to only balance charge every other charge/flight as long as you keep the charge rate 1C or lower?

Sure, why not?

Most of my packs stay balanced even after 20-30 charges. I usually check with the balancer before charging and if it is in balance I charge without it, then check again after charging.

Same here. No need to balance each charge.

You should never charge Lithium chemistry batteries without a balancer.

The flat cells all have different cooling within the pack and so by nature, they will go slightly out of balance.

The only time I ever just balance a pack is if it's been on the shelf for a few months, and I just need it to test something quickly without actually flying it. Otherwise I just charge them, and they get balanced at the same time anyway.

If that's so Cam, why doesn't every manufacturer of lipos equip their product with a balancing/charge connection? I seem to recall that the Align 1900mAh receiver pack sold with their 2 in 1 comes without a balancer connection. So do many other packs from various manufacturers.

My first experience with lipo's was with Blade CP. I charged that poor little battery hundreds of times without ever balancing since there was no way to balance it. Bottom line, the need to balance lipo's is overstated. With the current lipo chemistry and particular the nano-phosphate cells, balancing is essentially an old habit.

Until recently I would check the balance every charge, but never found the cells out of balance by more than a 0.02 volts. So now I check every now and then.

Additionally, the manufacturer of my TME charger informed me not to use an inline balancer during the charging process because it can interfere with the charger's operation.

My thoughts exactly, just wanted to make sure. Im not worried about my Li-pos catching fire as I believe that only happens if the Li-pos are SERIOUSLY abused or defective. My only concern is the life span of my packs which I guess wont be affected from only balancing them every 2 or 3 flights.
