As of now, no one is producing 30% due to the recent shutdown of the Chinese refineries and subsequent shortage of Nitro. This is all due to the Olympics.
Its pretty much 15% or 20% or whatever you have in your heli shop Look up RappyTappy, he had 5 gallons of Magnum 30 available and he's in Vegas.

take care, dont step on the toes today that may be connected to the butt you have to kiss tomorrow!!

Don't forget the EPA shut down the only plant in the USA. The freedom in this country is starting to be taken away.

First taking it at the gas pump

Man first we are taking it in the shorts at the gas pumps now we cant even fly our models.
So what's the deal? do we start looking at electric conversions for our gas fleets or try to wait it out?
I'm sure price of nitro will be to the point where it just won't be worth it.

my lhs is all out of heli fuel as well....wtf????

is there a thread that explains in entirety what is going on and why the shortage?? Are the components of the fuel impossible to get here in the states now or is there a possibility of buying the ingredients and blending our own?

Check the distributors, they have fuel. There was a run on the distributors so they temporarily ran out, but that should by now be relieved.

Wildcat,

Can you expand on some of the people that might carry it? I just checked towerhobbies as them being one of the "big guys" and it states order pending.

If you dont succeed the first time, try and try again. With heli's keep on trying!

I'd love to hear some input on blending, where to buy etc because going to kuwait is not an option...camels, dirt, camels, bearded women, dirt. Doesn't sound very pleasant.

i've checked three atlanta area stores today and not a one of them has anything higher than 20%, airplane fuel but I suppose bringing the oil content up would work if nothing else. My fault for not seeing this coming I suppose or I would have stocked up in advance.

LOL!

And that lipo stoppage comment is a pure rumor. If they stopped producing lipos what's going to power your laptop and cell phones? Besides, the good lipo we use in RC are from Korea. BTW that is not a city in China.

Federal reserves??

Hey maybe we could talk to our president and see if he could tap into our federal nitro reserves.

I would call this an emergency situation...
Anyway I just stocked up on 20% for the hell of it.
I just don't want to wait around to fly.

Simple: Producing batteries isn't particularly environmentally friendly. Battery production can be so bad, in fact, that a few studies have shown that, due to the pollution generated in producing the battery, a Toyota Prius pollutes more than a Hummer over its lifetime.

China is a primary source for both the batteries, and the raw materials used for the batteries.

China is practically shutting down its entire industrial sector to give the air around Beijing a chance to clear before the olympics.

It's bad for China's image if olympic athletes drop dead or refuse to compete due to the air quality. (And yes, it is that bad. The IOC is still watching air quality and may cancel entire events if the air quality is not good enough.)

EPA did NOT shut down the US plant. Back in the late 70s and again in the early 90s US plants blew up and were not rebuilt due, in part, to EPA regs.

But there is still a US plant making nitro.
