I'd be interested in knowing where you are getting the nitromethane and methanol.

I may be making my own shortly. LHS says it will be three months before they see any heli fuel?

I'm thinking;
30% nitromethane
23% synthetic oil
47% methanol

Or

19-20% nitro methane
20-23% synthetic oil
61-57% methanol

Does anyone know what the oil content on CoolPower 30% is?

I'd rather be flying

I believe it is 22%. And yes, where are you getting this stuff from? Since I live in the same part of the state I would really like to know.

With that I'd say go with the 19% nitromethane, and push the oil up to at least 22%.

If the oil content is low, the engine will overheat. I know, because back in my Hawkpro days, I tried Airplane fuel??? Don't ask me what I was thinking

I'd rather be flying

With the probability that 30% heli fuel will run out here shortly, could you run 30% airplane/car/boat fuel and add more oil or won't that work? In addition to home brew I'm just wondering what other possibilities to explore.

That can't be good!

What makes every one think that there is going to be a shortage in fuel? In sighting panic in every one, will causes product shortages. Every one thinks that there won't be any available, so they go out and by all that they can get there little hands on and poof all of a sudden, there isn't any. Sorry if this sound harsh, but I have seen this rumour on all the forums but no one has explained why it won’t be available.

There is a shortage because the Plant in China that makes nitro has been shut down due to the safety of the Olympic Games. I am sure processing will resume after the games..

The hobby shops around me are already out of 30% and tell me that their suppliers have no idea when more will be available.

That can't be good!

So all the Nitromethane comes frome China. I didn't know the NHRA competitors had to import there Nitromethane.

From what I understand, there are some Nitro plants in the US, but like everything now days, it is hard to compete with China in price.

first of all get quality oil and read its specs. 20% of KL-200 isn't the same as 20% of KL-198

Between 20% and 23% of KL-198 (Klotz Special oil for helis) there is absolutely no difference. Not even in terms of inflight temperatures. Save those 3% oil.

About the nitro content. There is a big difference jumping from 10% to 20% (in terms of engine smoothness and idle) but from 20% to 30% the benefit is marginal (except for top power).

It will also depend what type of nitro you get. The purer it is the better.

I wrote a replay two days ago about "how to mix" your fuel with some good tricks I believe. Check it out.

Tony
