Scale Model RC Helicopters > Possible hazzard installing electric starter

I'm just preparing my Vario benzine trainer mechanics to go into my Len Mount Lynx. I fitted the Vario Electric starter some months ago and it has been a great success for starting the G260RC Engine in my donor mechanics.I decided to go li-poly and install the new "Power Box Evolution"from power box systems that has been a great success on my Vario Lama. The problem I encountered was that when turning on the dual switch to activate the system a small pulse is sent through the system to check out its operation, this pulse activated the starter.
After checking over the system I found that I needed to set the servo arm over the micro switch a couple of clicks further around to eliminate the arm moving when that pulse for a split second arrived.
Thus allowing the servo only to work when the main starter switch was engaged after the main power switch had preset itself.
If I hadn't altered the arm the heli would have started every time I turned on the main power supply. Lucky for me I had no fuel in the engine.

Colin,

Why use a double switch?
I used a snap toggle to turn on the starter motor and off, got away from micro switches altogether.
It is akin to starting a car with a key, you keep the key turned until the car starts.

Or is this a idiosyc with the Power box?

Its a thought!

Hi Adrian
Yeh! it's a part of the power box system when using duel batteries.
Twin 7.4v Li-polys all day flying no gear required at the field.
On my Lama Im going to change to the twin li-poly 7.4 4000mAh when they arrive soon from Germany. These are the batteries that have an in built battery sensor/controller to enable you to charge in the model, much the same technology as the new batteries in Hitachi and Makita power tools. The batteries have their on controller, controls any overheating. Im also using the same battery on the turbine. Ive watched the large scale plank guys use this technology and all they turn up with is the planes and fly all day instead of using up valuable time charging. Might be abit of an overkill but that's my decision.
Regards
Colin

I agree

Sounds like a great decision to me!

It just a pity you have to deal with a "double" switch for the trouble.

Still I reckon you will figure out the solution!

Lama looks awesome too my friend
