We have all said that...and I said it today! Big slow loop and misjudged how fast the ground was coming up, it looked good until the last 10 feet...last minute full collective didn't save it. In reality I should have been running in ST2 to pull off saving my mistake since I set up ST1 for a max of 1850 on the headspeed and a +12/-7 pitch.
Damage was incredibly light for the hit it took.
1-Main blade
tail boom
pinion gear drive gear(few teeth broke off) to maingear drive,
1-Tailboom support
forward main skid
couple of ball links
horizontal fin
tailboom support clamp
4two servo gear sets
the intermediate tail rotor contol bell crank

No tail rotor assembly damage
no TT gear damage, the TT drive shaft was slightly tweeked but was easily made to run true and I will keep it as a spare.

about $60 worth of parts (not including mainblades) with a few spares left over. I felt like I was getting off on the cheap.

It happens to all of us. I suppose the frames survived intact?

Yep pretty much everything forward of the tail boom survived, other than a couple of cracked ball links and one mainblade breaking. The impact was a left side, slightly tail first impact. 90% of the damage appears to have come from the mainblades smacking the tailboom in two places.

You want to talk about a dumb mistake, I put my Vibe 50 in on Saturday first flight of the day at the Hirobo grand event (Ran out of fuel) suprisingly little damage
landing gear struts
front bed frame
body mounut X 2
and fly bar

didnt touch the blades and all shafts including spindle and TT are straight as can be, not a bad outcome for a bone head mistake.

d-,
Sorry to about the crash but its good to hear how tough the Vibe's and that they're holding up well in crashes. Makes it a little easier to practice some of that cool stuff seen at the Hirobo Cup.

T-,
It may have been a bone head mistake but you were looking good right to the end. Keep at it buddy.

I'm boiling my skids as we speak, figure they could use a little extra flex for future incursions. They are tough Heli's though.

HUM

Interesting read... so by boiling stuff you get it to be more resistant?

Maybe I should boild my skids too...

just pulled them out and they do have a bit more flex. It was a tech tip in this months RC Heli Mag. Boil them for 5 minutes, then just let them cool at room temp. The Vibe skids are a bit brittle, figured they could use a little help.

Tell me about it...

I got 8 sets for $7 each from a store that was giving up JR representation. I thought they would last forever but at the rate I'm crashing I'm on my 4th set already

I had one skid break and didn't even realize it until after I landed and picked up the heli...not sure how it broke, I hadn't had any recent hard landings. I think it was just a weak skid. They all seem to break right at the curve to flat area near the mount.
I wish gorilla gear would make some larger heli skids.
Did you guys see that company who is making aluminum spring loaded pivoting skids for 450 heli's? Saw them in this months Heli Mag. Thats what I needed when I just started out. Actually I could probably still use something like that (LOL!)
