JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Vibe 50 head wobble

Hi guys

I am just finishing off building my Vibe 50. While checking the blade pitch, i noticed there is a loose fit between the main shaft and the head.

The head has a split in it and i thought i could just tighten it up, but no way. It still wobbles about the 3mm bolt. With the blades extended out, the blade tips will wobble up and down about 5 to 8mm. This is all comming from the loose fit of the head.

I thought about adding a thin shim all around the shaft or squashing the head in a vice. Has anyone else had this problem ?

I could just go fly, but it is not good. The spit in the head is at about 45 deg....would it not have been better to put the split under the washout guide pins?

Regards
Paul

somthing isn't right. I almost had to bang mine into place. Do you have a digital caliper? can you measure the mainshaft diameter and the inner diameter of the T piece?

My shaft is 10.02mm

Tony

EDIT: Since this is a new kit, I would send the headblock and mainshaft back and ask for replacement. Maybe the mainshaft is ok but this way you'll save yourself of returning the mainshaft if it happens to be undersized or something.

Hi guys

I had a good look this morning. The shaft is exactly 10,00mm on my digital vernier. If i put a bit of preassure, it is 9,98mm...

It is difficult to measure the inner diameter on the head. I cant seem to get a repeatable answer....I tried the Vibe head on a Hirobo shaft. It was also a loose fit. 2 shafts can't be wrong....

Spoke to the local rep. today. I will be getting a new one tonight....enshala.....you need to live in the Middle East to know what this mean. He will send the 'old' one back to Horizon.

Will report back.

Thanks guys

Guys,

a friend noticed the same issue in a new T Rex 500.
He ordered a new head block and it was a perfect fit.

By the way, he is flying the "wobbeling" head without no problems and no noticeable negative flight characteristics but will change it next.

Happy flying,

Michael

Hi guys

I got a new head and shaft delivered to the field today.....Dubai is great and 'enshala' worked out....

Thanks tchavei for the point about getting a new shaft.....wait there is more.....

The new head on the old shaft was much better, but not perfect.
The new shaft on the old head was also much better, but not perfect.
It needed a new shaft and head.....can you beleive it.

There must be a tollerence on both items and i had under/over spec on both. With the new shaft or the new head, it was close enough to perfect, i would probably just have lived with the very slight wobble if it had come out the box like that. But seeing i was very aware of the situation and had new bits, i got it perfect.

Thanks guys. I can't wait to fly this thing.

Regards

Guys,

the Vibe 50 is absoutely worth to buy. In the 50 class I flew a 600N for one year and it did well, performed great and had no technical issues. On the other hand it tracked not that good and the main gears made kind of a nasty (high frequent)noise. I think that is for the material chosen.
I made my decision for the Vibe 50 on the excellent flight characteristics of my two Vibe 90. They are so smooth in comparison to the Synergy.
And the V50 met my expectations. It nearly flies like the 90, tracks on rails, has an extended pitch range (up to +/- 15°!), sounds better and has good quality parts.
I fly it with a TT Redline engine (used in the 600N) combined with a Hatori 522 and it pulls 13° without bogging down. So I will give the 14° a try next time.
Only thing I will change is a longer 440 mm flybar to speed up cyclics.
Actually I have V-Paddles on it.

So all in all a great machine.
As a (Heli-)Portfolio manager I would rate it a STRONG BUY.

Have a great day!

The Vibe 50 already comes with a 440mm flybar.

I have built 3 and all have this with head and shaft I needed to really tighten bolt. There is a split down head block so it will not wobble after torquing down

I dont know how to fly just how to not crash !!!!!

Same here, I had to really crank on the head block to get it tight.

I'd rather be flying

I'm very glad that this seems to be normal, when the bolt is not really tighten, because I've just finished my vibe and noticed the head wobble.

Guys,

I tried a spare head block and it was much more fit. Not 100% but nearly. Not JR - like as it used to be.
But I did not notice any difference in flight characteristics anyway.

Today it was time for my Radix SB and the V50 liked it a lot. Pitch was +/- 14°, hs was around 2200. It feels lighter in the air as compared to the standard Radix and cyclics are a bit more aggressive. So much fun all in all.

@Tony

You are right, 440 is stock. I would like to try some of about 460-480 of course that is not really necessary.

After a couple tanks a fellow heli pilot walked up and gave mine a twist and noticed quite a bit of play between the head block and shaft. I've been hearing of this problem quite a bit lately. Very scattered tho.

I've tightened the bolt again, but a little wobble is still noticeable, so next week I get a new head block from my local dealer. I've never had this kind of an issue before and I'm a little bit disappointed!

the head wobble issue is known. Tomorrow I get a hand-made head block (from the very first production run) from the Swiss JR importer, because he's not received any head blocks from the new batch yet. The hand-made one is maybe a little bit heavy with not a perfect finish, but it will definitely fit, I'm sure In about one or two weeks I'll get a new machined one That I call a great customer support
