Im new at flying helicopters(7 months now)and I just got my first nitro heli. This is the 2nd hover with my Raptor 30V1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZLorC2m9wY .Im testing my Gy401 and JR NES-810G tail servo but its still running a little.I dont wanna mess with the settings cause I dont know what the motor temp should be at and I need to get a temp gun this week.I kept poping it up some at the end of the video and loaded the motor up a little so I landed for 3-4 sec's and it cleared out but then started to run out of gas a min or two later lol.Can someone please tell me what the temp should be at?I can hold my finger on the backplate for a good 7-8 sec's and was told that the backplate test should only be 3-4 sec's,is that right?Oops, the motor is a OS.32 but im looking for a OS.37 for my upgrade..

You can lean that motor out little a bit. Just do it in small increments and make sure you still have a good smoke trail. If you notice the smoke start to die off and a drop in power then you have gone too far and need to land and richen it up 3-4 clicks. As long as the motor is running smoothly with good power it is better to stay slightly rich. I try to tune it with a full power climb out as that is when the motor is going to work the hardest and heat up the most. If you make large adjustments on the main needle you may need to adjust the low end needle when you are done.

I'll turn it in another click or 2.Im running Powermaster 15% and the guy I got the heli from was running 30% nitro. The 15% has more oil in it so I know its running rich cause theres no change in the motor in climb outs,it just loads up.Do you have any ideal what the motor temp should be at on a OS.32?Ive been playing with nitro rc's for years (trucks, cars and stuff)and never had running problems useing a temp gun but im pretty sure the nitro heli motors dont run at the same temp that trucks ect..do.I allways run the same fuel and % and never mix them so if I can find out what the temp on these motors should be at during climb outs i'll be set..I dont like playing with the settings unless I know what the temp should be at..

Can't tell you the exact temp but you got the backplate test down OK. As long as you get to the backplate ASAP after landing (careful slowing those rotor blades down!) then the test is valid. Another click or two like you said!

Have you been to www.raptortechnique.com yet? That site is very useful to us Raptor owners - and if you can get hold of Ray's Authoritative DVDs then there's not much else to say

Sweet, thanks for the links guys.I got a temp gun today then went to a nice open spot and made some passes, when I checked the temp (between the head and block) and it was around 225F so I think thats about right on but please let me know if im wrong. What do you guys think about the OS.37?I was told its the best 30 size motor for sport flying..
