Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Gasser Question from a newbie.

GUys,

I have about 1 gallon through through my gasser with Blue marble, 5oz to a gallon running at 1-1/2 on both high and low needle.

My question is when I hover for a minute the heli start to loose headspeed and I have to land. Is it because it's running too rich? It does have a lot of white smoke and oil coming out of exhaust pipe. Should I lean it a bit?

What are your temps, and what does your plug look like??? XGM/VGM

1 1/2 is really rich, but check your plug,, it will tell the story...

When is looses HS is it stumbling, burbleing, or just starts to loose rpm??

Plug is a nice Carmel color on small part of the plug, the rest is clean silver color. The engine doesn't stumble or burbling, Headspeed just slowly decrease till I have hard time keeping it in the air.

Jason,, it sounds like it is going lean on you,, is your fuel line and clunk in good shape?? Also, you might check the internal screen in the carb, it might be pluged,, Something is starving the engine of fuel,, also check your isolator block, between the carb, and engine,, XGM/VGM

Losing headspeed

Hi,have you checked your pitch curves, excessive pitch will cause this problem amongst others.Check and see with a pitch guage and see what you have at 1/2 ,3/4 and full pitch.Gassers can be tricky to set up if you are used to glow engines. Are you using a governor, they make set up so much easier.

The headspeed is faster in midstick. Once I go past midstick, headspeed slowly decrease. But the it slowly getting better engine breaks in.

You might be Lean on the H needle if the HS is slowing down after you are giving it more throttle,, Richen the H needle and see if that helps.. XGM/VGM

I'm curious, what is your throttle curves like?
Can you post them here.

Also does this happen in all modes? normal idle up 1 & 2?

Sluggish gasser

I am running in my G260 at the moment ,using a chrome pancake filter with stock exhaust.First i mixed at 25.1 and the engine did not appear to like the excess oil so i switched to 50.1 and it runs much better. If you are using different parts from stock it can have a marked effect on carb tuning .Sounds daft ,is your plug gap correct, too close a gap can cause problems. Is it ok when really cold and gets worse as it warms up.If so its probably too rich.Is it ok just under half throttle or worse over or vise virsa. These things can tell you which needles to adjust if lean or rich.
