In the past month I have started to do Flips and began practicing circuit or figure 8's. Dang it, Ive crashed my 450 heli 3 times in the past 3 weeks. I feel like I am at the point where my confidence in further along than my skills!!! My buddy said he went through the same thing when he started FF flight. You guys having the same experience??

At what point are you crashing? Is the helicopter in some particular orientation that you just loose control?

i think you are going about it in the wrong way, you should continue to hover until you can be comfortable in all orientations, then move into figure 8's and then circuits. flips and stuff are for when you can fly the dang heli. Ron

I was going to suggest the orientation hovering, but you don't need to be able to hover nose in to do figure of 8's or lazy 8's.

Hover the model out sideways past you to the left and right equal distances. As you find it easier so turn the nose a little at a time in the direction of flight until you get it full side on to you as it passes. Now at each end do a half piro to get the model facing to fly the other direction. Expand this into lazy 8's where the turn becomes more of a half circle instead of a half piroette. As you practice these expand the turn out further to make a proper looking 8. As you do this you will eventually get to see the model nose in.

At all times try and keep the model moving at a steady pace.

if you really break down banked 8's, there's actually more cyclic involved than rudder....i say keep practicing....before you know it you'll surprise yourself and have em' locked in at high speed

The way I did it is hover, then turn left fly forward for about 10 feet, hover while turning 180 degrees the fly forward around 20 feet hover turn 180 degrees etc...and after a while turn while moving and finally bank turns. By the way I practices on the sim first.

I wish I could fly 24/7

Being able to hover in the 4 main orientations would solve your problem. Yeah, it's boring as hell to practice hovering but you just have to learn it sooner or later. You'll never regret it once you got it down pat and I can honestly say that if you were very comfortable in all orientations you wouldn't be crashing with figure 8's.

with 2 ears and 1 mouth you should listen twice as much as you talk

You should have your orientations down so if you keep the heli up 30 feet or so there should be no problem recovering from any wrong move of the stick. If not, you need to go back and pratice the basics until they are second nature. I'm practicing figure eights also and having problems making smooth level turns, sometimes they look like anything but an eight, but I don't crash. When I get out of shape I just bail out, recover and get the heli back in the pattern. This might require making an unplanned circle in another direction but if you have your orientations down, that should be not a problem.

If you can't do them on the sim, then don't expect to do them for real.

I tried to rush learning but I also learned the hard way, skipping the basics means spending a whole lot more money and time repairing it. If you had put the repair time spent on learning the basics, you wouldn't have spent all that money on parts.

I see this comming up so many times,people want to skip the hover practice and get to the good stuff,but you WILL have to learn all orientations so learn it now and you can move on with confidence...I GUARANTEE you will progress faster IN THE LONG RUN and CRASH LESS

last summer I took the long boring road and worked on nothing but hovers,yes it was hard,boring and really took some dedication to stay with it,but now I can do circuits,8's stall turns,flips, rolls,loops, funnels and I'm currently working on inverted hover,and I've had 1 crash in the last 200 or so flights....once you can control the heli in ANY orientation,regaining control is quick and easy

lots of guys have skipped side and nose in to go right for flipping ect,but they have to come back if they want to be a FLYER not a BANGER
