I am just about finished with my Beam and I must say that it is very fun heli to put togehter. All the parts fits perfectly, and the quality is unmatched in the 450 field in my opinion.

I finished my build too. I enjoyed it.
What pitch/throlltl curves are you going to use? Are you setting it up with 0 pitch at center stick?
Thanks

Thanks for the info.

I just started flying helis this year. a couple of coaxials in January, 2 HoneyBee FP's in February . A Swift 550 in March was my first CP heli. A pair of micro CP JR Parkmites April and now the Beam.

Im 53 years old so I need to start out with a fairly mild setup to begin with. I will probably set up a Normal curve with only a little negative pitch to get the tail adjusted properly in rate mode. Once that is done, should I limit negative pitch to , say 4 degrees in Idle 1 and use 30 expo till i get a good feel for it. I wont be flipping it for a while. Im kind of afraid that I will lower the throttle stick if I see Im going to crash. I have to get my Throttle Hold finger educated as quickly as possible.

Ill have the full weights in the Gorilla paddles for a while too.
Is it OK to use some expo on the rudder channel in HH mode? Im very open to any suggestions for taming down this bird for my first flights with it.I can see my big Swift pretty well but know this 450 will get real small, real quick. Ill have to keep it in close.

You guys that grew up with video controllers in your hand have a real edge on us OF's that are coming into the game later in life. Im still very amazed at the videos of you guys flying these things on the outer edges of the envelope. Ill never get my thumbs and brain working together fast enough for anything other than some moderate sport flying but I will say, I have enjoyed every minute of the learning process. Ive always built models from stick built, tissue covered control line planes, free flight stuff, rc sailplanes then rc fixed wing stuff. I quit for 7 years and jumped back into helis with both feet forward. I found out how much I missed it.(sorry for the rambling)

Thanks,

Jimmy

The way I learned was by setting my normal mode to about 7 degrees positive pitch with only about 4 degrees negative. Just leave your throttle curves linear for now, meaning on normal mode 0,25,50,75,100 and 1&2 modes at 100,75,50,75,100. It doesnt really matter how you set up your 1 and 2 modes for pitch because you wont be using them yet but I would start with idle up 1 at 8,0,8 and idle 2 at 10,0,10 for now. I still use expo on the tail but none on the cyclic. Start out with 20% expo on your cyclic and tail and adjust from there until you get comfortable.

Thanks for the info. I would have used a linear throttle curve if I had read your post before:

I flew it today and it is a quiet, sweet, responsive little heli.

I set my normal Pitch curves for 0, -4, 0, 5, 10

Idle 1 and 2 and HH the same for now

I set throttle almost like the manual which is different than my other helis. It calls for beginners to use 0%, 75%,75%,75%,75%
I set up a bit of a curve between point 1 and 3 with about 60% at point 2.

After the initial spool up zing, you just hear the blades. I used the purple/white stock blades. I intended to put a pair of Align Pro 325's on it but didnt want to take the time to balance them once everything else was set up. I used an 1180mah, 30C Tanic pack that I had been using to program the ESC so I only kept it up in the air for 2.5 minutes.Could of flown longer, I think and it was a little tail heavy with only a 104g pack but otherwise it was trimmed well. Didnt try the gyro in rate mode though..it was getting dark.

If I dont let this thing get too far away from me and lose orientation, I think IOm going to enjoy this little bird.

I finally flew mine this weekend and was really impressed. Like you said, very quiet, very smooth. I really like it. I really liked the Beam Blades. I have V 325's, SAB 325,s, and Radix's but these are as good as any I have tried. My favorites were the Radix, but the beam blades are right on par with them.

just kidding. but i would like to take it for a spin.I'm hopeing you get tired of this heli quickly and we can do some tradeing, i think she'll round out my fleet nicely.

I allways seam to get his leftovers, hopefully this one will still be in one peice by then,

pcmpete, looks nice. That's a clever way to mount the remote rx, I wouldn't have thought of that.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
