e-Hirobo SRB Quark - Lepton - XRB Coaxial > Recommandation needed for using Scorpion motors in Lepton

Hello all~
I recently got a hirobo lepton kit and now tring to find a good motor for it.
But in my country only limited motors available and I found Scorpion motors with thunder power batteries would be my best choice due to its availability and service.
So my question is which Scorpion motor should I get for 4S or 5S flying?
The kv value of the scorpion heli ones are all over 1000kv,
would it too high for lepton? or what pinion gears should I use if I use them? or - maybe I can use the non-heli ones which kv are around 700-900 without changing stock pinion gears?

I am not a pro flyer so only do some mild turns and loops, so a motor with longer flying time would be great for me.

please help me pick the right one

thanks a lot in advance

HK-03026-1000kv for 4S Setup on 18~19 T pinion
I've installed it but not flown as yet

Thanks for the reply Jafa

since 0.6M pinion gears are not easy to get here, I might need to use some motors can fit the supplied pinions.

I also noticed some non-heli scorpion motors might have proper Kv
S-3026-12 110kv
S-3026-10 900kv
S-3026-8 1100kv
they are not like HK ones which are made purely for heli, but looks the designs are almost the same, I am not sure what the really differences are.......
how u guys think?

You can get those 0.6M pinion gears from ReadyHeli and HeliDirect. Either the RevCo pinions (buying them direct from them too) or the Rhino pinions. They are the same pitch as the TRex 500.

We haven't seen Colonel Angus around these parts for years!

Let us know how you like the motor, been looking at the Scorpion motors myself.

I might try to use S-3026-10 900kv with stock 24T pinion gears first.
Since HK-03026-1000kv not available here yet.
I think that should be enough for simple non-3D flights.

Maybe another HKs when I have more skills :P
I will let u guys know how I feel

How is the Scorpion working in the Lepton? Has anyone tried it yet?

I took mine to the field last weekend
I had the Scorpion in 90% gov mode
and it was not great
The gyro was unhappy - tag had a soft wag
The power was pulsing and doing some wierd stuff
I forgot the programmer so could not turn it off

Back home I've turned the gov off
and the wife kindly tached me
I got ~2900+ at 90% throttle
It should be lively!

Will have it in the air again this weekend

Got her going today

This is the 1000kv HK Scorpion
It works fine - much the same power as other motors
It came down at a mild temperature which is good

There may be more go in this motor
I am still trying to get the Scorpion 60 HV SBEC working well

I really don't like soft start 1
I slowly raise the collective and it starts up ok
I get to zero pitch and wait
and after a short delay it really kicks in hard
tail is not quick enough to hold her (30 degree swing out)

Also - the speed it hits at that point in time
is what you are going to get during the flight
So you need your throttle curve nice and high at zero pitch

I think the governor is on and it's not possible to turn it off???

I'll have to try soft start 2 and a 100% throttle curve
to see if the governor will work better

In short - the motor works fine
(wonder how long it will last)
but the ESC is a little disapointing
(the manual is not clear on what the ESC expects
from your throttle curve during soft start and gov modes)

Jafa,

We are trying this sort of combo in our demo Lepton but using a 22T pinion and the 90-amp esc. We have yet to set up the throttle curves or governor. Once we have some results we'll post them with data log graphs.

I'm looking for around 2900rpm on the head but with high efficiency due to the high KV rating of the motor. We'll be doing our test flights on PolyQuest 4s3000 30C packs. I'm expecting flight times of around 4-5 minutes of hard 3D.

On my 18T pinion I am getting 2900 at 90% throttle and zero pitch
(Wife tach'ed me at home, but I'm not getting this in flight
due to the lack of clarity on how to use this ESC)

I would have thought that on a 22T pinion
you will be running a much lower throttle position for 2900rpm
This could heat up the ESC and result in bogging - maybe
I would think you will be forced to use the governor mode in the ESC

With my 4S 3700mah Hyperion
I was getting 3D flight times of 5:30 (with the Kora motor)
And I have that battery sitting a long way forward
in order to correctly balance the heli

I think your 4S 3000mah are going to be a tad light (balance)
(no doubt the collective will pop better)
and yeah, flight time around 4:30 to 4:45

I'm certainly keen to hear your results
and hear your thoughts on the Scorpion ESC

The soft start in the 90 amp version is known
to work better than the 60

Scorpion say they have new ESC firmware coming
that performs better than a Jazz
I'm certainly hanging out for that!
(but have to return to factory for the firmware upgrade)
