I am using a Hercules 5 amp BEC with my 3S Trex packs on my R30. It has been working great

I might get flamed for this, but I would reccomend one of the Align 2-1s and a good 2S lipo. The built in glo ignitor is very convenient. Combine that with a cordless starter and you don't even need a field box... just a gallon of fuel with a pump

I 2nd the Align 2-1 Regulator... First off it IS very conveinent like Funky Trex said it has the onboard glow (light's for 15 seconds and shuts off when your engine has started) and it is very slim and space saving and it has a visual LED voltmeter to monitor your battery level... You would save on weight big time using it with a 1900 to 2100 mah 2s battery pack. I have that setup and it works great....

Nothing wrong with a 4 cell nicad. Especially if this is your first nitro. Get a loaded voltmeter to monitor your voltage and quick charge if needed. I wouldn't make it any more complicated than it is.
You can always upgrade if you want later.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

4.8 volt nicad or nimh. 1700-2000mah should work well. I think a lipo pack and a regulator is a little over kill for a beginner. Save your money for spare parts. just my 2 cents.

Damn that ground is hard!

I would consider keeping your setup as simple as possible at least at first . A nicad is cheap and reliable. Buy lots of fuel,,readup and upgrade if needed

I agree with simplicity especially if you are new to helis and or glow. I bought a used Rappy.30 to learn on, it came with a 1100nicad. I have been flying it with that battery for some time. When learning hover it would last through 3 tanks,(I checked it with a loaded meter before each flight) and 3 tanks with a .30 is quite a while. I am upgrading it to a .50 now and it will get a better battery, but you dont have to get real exotic. BTW NICE canopy!

rotoryfalcon If your upgrading your 30 to a 50 a 2700 nimh is a good choice. You'll get plenty of runtime out of it even if you go with digital servos. You'll like the 50 alot better than the 30 lots more horsepower!

Strangely enough a 2700nimh is what I bought for it. I cant wait to get her done. Just broke the Hyper .50 in and am waiting on the last few upgrades.

Well I have a 1000 nimh 4 cell but just bought that align b6t 2 in 1 with LiPo batt when you say making things harder then they should be are these things hard to install

BTW. Thanks to everyone for the replies and can't wait to fly my new heli for the first time

Also I haven't bought a govner yet I won't need this until ready for 3d on this chopper right?

Thanks Rotary, that canopy is definately one of my favorites

There is nothing complicated about hooking up a 2-1. It is just not quite as simple as plugging in a battery instead.

You won't need a gov for the 30. I never put one on mine. I would just use it to learn the basics and upgrade it to a 50 when you are ready to start tossing it around.

Thanks again funky, not trying to bother everyone but I have 5 electric helis and this is my first nitro when you attach the carb to the motor do I need to do anything special besides tighten the clamp bolt I don't want to mess it up my heli is almost done just have servo links to put on and hook up fuel filter when I get it and then set up a mem a lot on TX but want to be sure about motor as directions for that seem vague

Nope - as long as the o-ring between the carb and the crankcase is compressed then it should be fine.
