Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > Futaba R146iP "short" xtal ?

Hi,

Anybody familiar with the Futaba "short" Crystal ? I've had some trouble finding xtals for the R146iP receiver - I'm assuming that they are just single conversion xtals as opposed to the longer Dual conversion xtals ?

HeliDirect say use Berg xtals in this receiver, but link you to the Berg Micro xtal which is physically smaller - I'm sure they won't fit this Rx (I believe the Berg Micro's are half size like the GWS xtals ?)

I've taken a chance and found some Hitec Single Conversion xtals which, I've been told, will work with Futaba Receivers, but in the meantime, can anybody shed some light (experience) on the Futaba "Shorts" and if, indeed, the Hitec SC Xtals will work ?

Many Thanks

Short refers to the height but yes they are single conversion. The distance between the prongs is the same as a standard crystal so I doubt those dinky gws ones would work.

As for trying something other than a Futaba Single Conversion crystal in it, ask yourself if the cost of the right crystal is less than replacing the model.

Thanks for the input - I know what your saying, but cost is not the issue here....it's finding the damn things !

..I've been trying to find a Futaba 72Mhz SC Xtal for weeks now - for some reason, I just can't find any? Tried all the chinese outlets on eBay - Nothing.

One US shop advised that a Hitec would work fine - but they had none of those either...

...even went to Performance Devices in CA who have a wealth of all sorts of xtals in all frequencies & sizes....but no Futaba SC's ??

I've read on a few other forums that Hitec is OK with Futaba, but I thought I'd try RR to glean some confirmation or comments on the subject - hopefully a definitive OK or NOT OK from somebody with actual hands-on experience or resepective product knowledge.

Thanks again for your comments.

Does it have to be on a specific channel? If not, I could send you one. OEM Futaba.

Yes Hitec crystal will work, but I wouldn't risk my models on it.

Hi All,

Thanks for all your help (& offer Whirlyspud) - I've got a couple of Hitecs on the way now, and hopefully a Futaba SC as well, so by the end of next week I should be sortd.

Thanks again

...weel the Hitec SC crystal arrived.....and doesn't work ! No reception whatsoever..

I have a Futaba SC xtal in the post...hoping this would be OK

BUT...

I sent a cursory email to Futaba, just to put my mind at rest - I got a reply within 3 hours (and on a Sunday !!), only to advise me that the Futaba SHort xtal is not only physically different from a standard SC xtal (shorter), but also has a different electronic characteristic which is not interchangeable with standard SC xtals.

The short xtal is designed for use in a select number of Futaba receivers (including the R146IP) and it will not work in other Futaba receivers - simlarly, standard SC xtals will not work in receivers designed to take the Short crystals.

Thought this information would be of help to anybody else searching for an answer.

Many thanks to everyone above for their input.

Oh dear! Its a pity i didnt see this post a bit sooner and i could have told you that the hi tec crystals wouldnt work. Been there, done that and got the tee shirt!

If it doesnt move and its meant too... use WD 40. If it moves and its not meant too...use duct tape!

....a wasted purchase ! Had a Futaba short arrive yesterday & everything is working fine now.

I think the 2 or 3 people that said Hitec would work were not aware that the R146iP is a different animal which won't accept standard Futaba crystals......

anyway, I made the post as I had no experience and wanted to draw on others "experiences".....not to worry, at least I'm up & running now which is the main thing
