I'm not crazy about hitec either. But after reading about the good results that folks were having with this particular one, I decided to give it a shot. So far so good. I have had one 9254 go bad on me and create a very interesting recovery. I prefer the futaba's but I just thought that higher torque servo for the tail would be easier on the servo itself. My 9254's were running pretty hot with the gain adjust down to the minimum...less than 45 on my tx setting(8U). I was pretty hesitant to run any higher gain because of the heat of the servo.

I'm running bluebirds on everything else for about the last 50 hours and they are holding up great. I had ran 9252's but the bluebirds seem to hold center a little better. I think all brands of servos are getting better and better with time......like most electronics. I honestly never thought that I would run bluebirds on my helis....especially on a gasser.

Oh yea....excellgassman......eel snot is pretty slick.....I don't know if the tail was quite that slick...but close

Hitec 6965

The Hitec 6965 servos has a speed of 0.10sec/60° while the Futaba 9254 has a speed of 0.06Sec/60°.

On a Raptor 50 I tried a servo with a 0.10Sec/60° speed with the GY401 and it didn't performed as well as the 9254. Maybe on the XCell gasser it would be a different story since it's a much more heavy machine with more inertia, what do you think?

I'm running mine at 6v, so the speed is at .08 sec. For my flying ability which doesn't consist of any major 3d moves, I can't tell the speed difference.

Why is it that with so many people their gyro servo 9254 run bad/hot?
Are these servo's set mechanical right?
If it is set mechanically wrong, I suppose the Hitec servo will run hot too?

My hitec runs much cooler than the 9254 ever did. I'm not sure why. I made sure that all of the setup was free moving and it's mechanically set to hold a "tail stable" hover while in normal mode. There have many discussions about the 9254 on the forums and I don't know if anybody really came up with a hard and fast reason for the 9254 failures. I even went as far as putting on a heatsink on my 9254 to help keep it cooler.....but that doesn't really solve the issue. I was actually hoping that the hitec would get just as hot while flying so I could keep my faith in the 9254, and say that the heat generated is "normal", but the hitec just gets warm....and does hold better on my gasser. So, I guess it still boils down to individual experiences.
