Hi Everyone,

Its been a long long time since i posted on runryder and im delighted to see this online community is stronger than ever and getting stronger by the day. I havnt been flying in a while, a 2 1/2 year old boy is taking up a lot of my time but now he is a bit older i have time to fly again, im looking seriously at the Aurora !!

I am wondering what exactly i might need to kit out one of these birds, Im using a PCM10X on my raptor ( 35mhz , i will convert to DSM)... Whats the genral concensous on servos, gyros, engines, blades ... I see a lot of people use lipo rx batteries, this is something i dont do, i use lipo for electric fixed wign, can some one recommend a lipo rx and voltsge regulator ? im trying to work out exactly i need to shell out to get me the best heli in the world today.

Any suggestions or guidance are appreciated,

Cheers Guys ... its good to be back

Paddy

Welcome back,

Couple of good choices out there today.

Servos: JR8717, BLS451
Gyro: Solid-G or Spartan DS760
Engine: YS91SR with SB-19FH (really, its that good.)
Blades: VBlades, Radix, Maniac's
RX Battery: EVO RX 3000-4000mah or perhaps A123 2s1p 2300 (safer)
Reg: Arizona is my favorite, Duaralite works too.

With 8717 you can run directly lipo, meaning feeding the servo's with 7.4v, I tried it, didnt like it, but if you gonna do it, you need a regulator for gyro, throttle etc, Spektrum sells one just for that purpose, they even coming out with a Receiver with it built in.

MrMel pretty much nailed it with your choices.

My Aurora is fitted out with the following:

DS 8717 servos at 7.4v on cyclic
Multigov Pro governor with 9252 on throttle
OS91 with cline regulator and MP5 muffler
Futaba 3102 servo for mixture control (attached to Multigov Pro)
Spartan DS 760 gyro with JR 8900 servo (Futaba 9256 and BL servo work great)
690 V-Blades 170g
95mm V-Paddles
Spektrum AR7100 rx (built in regulator)
Flightpower EVO RX 2100 lipo

This configuration is about 10.2 lbs ready to fly and flys great

Anyone using Spektrum,s AR7100R with the limiter?

I like the idea of not using a governor hence less weight and less set up hassles, in general less stuff on board. If its set up right with good throttle curve management................ it should be fine,

Agree or Disagree?

I have one of my machines setup with just the 7100R to see how light I could make my machine (9.8lbs ). The other is setup with a 7100R with revmax disabled and a Multigov Pro.

Here you go, an Aurora with AR7100R installed. This receiver makes very clean setup on the Aurora, especially with build in RevMax, and the RTF weight is 10.03 Lbs. Mine is bit heavy than Mike's.

Here is mine with the AR7100R installed:

One thing to note is that if you are using the YS engine, the backplate sensor will not work if you install it as recommended by Spektrum, i.e. touching the backplate. For whatever reason, the difference in the crankpins between the OS and YS engines (OS is 7mm in diameter and YS is 8mm in diameter) is enough to throw the system off. It will work, however, if you use the mounting hole for a .50-sized engine and back the sensor away from the backplate about 1/4 cm.

Sorry Guys - a bit noobish but just so i have it stright in my head - with the AR7100 you dont need a seperate voltage regualtor ?? Like an Arizona etc ? I know the gyro will only work with 5 volts or so nothing higher ? are you using a hard on/off switch assy or just using the deans ultra connector between the lipo and the rx to " switch " on and off the system ?

Thanks a million

Paddy

Paddy,

The AR 7100 has a built in voltage regulator that will supply 5.2 volts to a gyro or throttle servo. If you have cyclic servos that are capable of running at 8v, no other regulator is necessary as you would connect your 2s lipo directly to the receiver. The receiver also has a built in failsafe switch and is packaged with a hard on/off switch that can be used or you can use the supplied switch/charge lead which uses the bind plug to switch the receiver on and off.
