Just make absolutely certain that the servos you intend to use are rated for 6V IF you are going to use 5 cell packs.

Most Gyros & Tail servos are rated for 4 cell use only.

So that means I have to install regulators on my gyros and step-downs on my gyros servo, what a pain in the ass! going to 2.4

ya it was alot more equipment im use to also but in the end its so much nicer. im running 8.4 volts on my system and regulating the tail. its a totaly different beast now. talk about a locked in feel. the cyclic now locks it like a tail servo. very responsive. but of corse i have the 8717s to do so

You dont need a regulator to the gyro, its the servos that over heat if you run them with a fully charged 6 cell pack.
