Avant Aurora - EFX - FX > First flights with the Aurora

Snuck out this morning to try and get a couple of tanks on the Aurora to break in the new engine. After a couple easy tanks I leaned it out a couple clicks and discovered the limiter on my new AR7100R is not working. The light comes on indicating its active, the sensor light blips when the crank rotates, but its not limiting. Oh well, so I couldn't use my 100% throttle curves today. Dialed in a basic curve and put one more flight on it before heading home. Even with the engine running rich on a basic curve it was quite impressive. I can't wait until I get the engine fully tuned and the limiter working.

Here's the last flight:

YS 91SR with SB-19, 8717's, Solid-G and Spektrum AR7100R (with regulator and limiter). Right now the engine is running rich, it's just a couple clicks leaner than the break-in needle settings. A couple more flights and I should get it where I want it. Today I was flying Radix 710's (non-SB's). Tomorrow I am going to try the new SAB's which are about 25g lighter each blade. As I mentioned in the first post, the limiter on the AR7100R does not seem to be working so I was using a very basic curve (90 - 65 - 90) which seemed to work pretty well. I've got to say, the machine is flying very well - it feels a lot lighter in the air than the N9. Almost feels as light as a 600N in the air with the power of a 90. Unfortunately, I think the one-way in the clutch is going out already - it seems to slip about half the time when starting the engine and if I turn the start shaft in the other direction it squeaks. That's a minor issue though - all in all I'm very pleased with the way the first flights went today.

I had the pleasure of flying a friend's Aurora today. First off: this was my first 90 flight experience. I want to say I felt extremely at home with this heli, and it was very predictable in movement with no surprises. It majored on smoothness and the power was ample in four point tictoks, etc. If only I was willing to spend another $3000...
