Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Changes in Spectra kit?

Does anyone know if MA has made any changes to the Spectra since it was released? I'm asking because I'm thinking of picking one up so I have 2 gassers, and I know a place that has one on the shelf. However, it's been sitting for a while so I'm wondering what I can expect if I buy it vs ordering one from my LHS and waiting the 2 weeks that they gave for a time estimate.

Nothing serious

From what I know. I think they changed a couple of canopy studs or so it seems from pgkvets build, the tail was replaced a long time ago with a closed tail. Other than that if something was updated and its not in your kit I'm sure Minair will make it right for you by sending them the parts and getting them replaced.

Man gassers are becoming popular now, welcome to the Spectra-g world Eury! Guess nitro prices are to blame, I heard its $30 for 30% coolpower now...

The kit I'm building has very few changes from the on-line manual...this is the tempest head version..the head now comes as one piece T. the flybar control is a carbon end, cnc frame and the washer for removable pull start has changed too.

I've got to tail rotor assembly at this time so a small chance i'll find something else

I haven't decided if I'm going to buy one yet, but looking around the shop, I have all the electronics, and engine and muffler that I'd need to put one together, and I like having a spare heli.

I know that when I bought my Spectra G it didn't come with the new flybar carrier that they have now but I bought mine before that was even made. I would assume if you buy a new Spectra G now that it would come with it but I'm not sure. So if the kit that you know about has been around since before they came out with the new carrier improvement then it wont have it. I don't know how long the new fly bar carrier has been around now but you might want to check on that.

Thanks, just need to decide if I want the Tempest or Extreme head. If I get the Tempest, I'll just order it from the LHS, MA says it'll be 2 weeks while they wait for canopies. Of course, everything at MA is ALWAYS 2 weeks out, so who knows how long it'll really be.

I thought one difference was the CF tail boom - they are now shipping with aluminum booms ? So an older kit may have the CF boom, bonus?

...yep...

I thought the Spectras always had AL booms. That'd be cool, I could probably find someone to trade me a couple AL booms for the CF.

They've always come with the alluminum boom.
Oh yeah I remember when I orederd my Spectra G kit it took 6 months for the LHS to get it but at that time they were trying to get the open tail box to work on the spectra then they finally gave up on it and now use the closed box.

Which is exaclty what I was told about 3-4 mths ago and one reason why I ended up with the Predator. If it was true both then and now then MinAir are having a major problem in judging their production runs...

I've been dealing with MA for long enough to know that everything is always 2 weeks out. Occasionally you'll get a "Next Month", but 99.999999% of the time it's 2 weeks. Luckily, I know where there is a kit sitting on a shelf.

On the phone

I was on the phone with Cyndi at Minair on Friday to give some feedback. First I told them to change the website to indicate the price they show is Retail price and not the actual price. She assured me that nobody pays the retail price, but you have to start somewhere and give a discount off that. I indicated that people go there, see $1400 for a kit, and assume that is the price even though Rick's sells them for $1045. She said the reason for that is dealers sell at whatever price they like - a discount off retail, and minair is a factory not a retail store and if they list it at $1045 then the dealers will be FORCED to sell it at that price or lower as otherwise they will be undercutting the dealers and dealers will not be happy. Thought to shed some light on this for you folks.

But in any case, Cyndi said that even if you call Minair direct and order a kit from them, they will sell it to you at about the same price at the dealer price, nobody really pays that retail price.

#2 all Minair Spectra-g kits come with the aluminum boom, since day 1 when I bought mine like 3 years ago. They no longer are getting CF booms as they are pretty expensive to make and most people don't want to pay the high cost of them. It was always an upgrade option.

#3, they are getting some new design canopies made by a third party. They have plenty of kits ready to go less the canopies. She does have some canopies in the back that are not Perfect coming out of the mold but if you are going to paint them they can be patched up and painted and she will gladly discount them for you folks who want them. The new canopies (if you want for those) are really going to be nice quality, even nicer than the current fiberglass ones from that I understand. But please understand they are at the hands of the 3rd party manufacturer, so Minair can only say what they think it will be before they get them, as they are not standing there on top of the manufacturer saying do this now per say. You know the drill, I've been there myself trying to get some things done and you're waiting on someone else. Have patience and you will be pleased!

The torque tube has been improved with pinned end and comes preassembled from Minair now. Been like that for some time, just insert it and go but don't forget to put lithium grease in the coupler ends before doing so to minimize wear.

Hope this helps guys. Your points are well taken and I'm passing them along to Minair for you.

I wonder if I could get a kit shipped right out if I'd take one of those canopies, or even without a canopy and have it shipped later? That'd certainly make my lfe easier.

Nick,, Every time I have call MA, they have bent over backwards to help.. I'm sure if you called them, they would be more that willing to help you out, by sending the kit with or without the canopy, now it might cost you a little more in shipping fee's for having to ship the canopy at a later date, just guessing here,, but if I were you,,, I would give them a call... 1-352-383-3201 Good Luck,,, XGM/VGM

I'm going to call them up on Monday and discuss it with them, and once we work it out have my LHS call and order it. If they'll do it, I'll pay extra to buy one of the bad canopies and have them ship the good one at a later date. Just need to decide if I want the Tempest or Extreme head.

I placed an order for the Spectra G from MA on Friday and was told it would be a few weeks till it comes in. I guess this explains it. They are waiting for canopies to arrive. Thats OK. I am patient. I have pretty much everything I need for mine short of the Toxic 231. MA told me they dont stock it any more. Anyone know who else carries the toxic modified motor?
