Radio - JR & Spektrum DSM > Problem w/ new 7100 RX

I installed one of the new Spektrum 7100 receivers in a new Vibe 50 but it's acting strange. When I power it on I get a slow blinking light on both the main and satellite RX. It binds correctly to the transmitter because I have complete control it just keeps blinking. I've tried to rebind at least a dozen times using both of the fail safe methods with the same result. Every once in awhile (maybe 1 time out of every 10) the light will be solid. Anyone else see this?

It's telling you that you've had a "brown out".

How are switching everything on? Maybe your switch has a bit too much "bounce"

It's the switch that came with the 7100.

Can you describe in detail exactly how you wiring up the power etc. to the Rx.

Are you running an 8v setup? Do you get any arcing (sparks) when you connect the battery pack?

Is it happening once the battery pack is connected and you then switch on using the "soft switch"?

If your sitting there cycling the Rx power with never turning off the Tx, this is exactly what happens. When you power down the heli, also power down the Tx. Then turn it all on again and see if it still does it.

Good point, it will think it has had a brown out!

It does it the first time I turn it on. TX is always turned on first. Yes I'm running an 8.4v setup with a 3000mah lipo. The lipo is plugged in and then the RX is turned on using the included switch. I've never seen sparks on anyhting less than a 6s e-heli setup and don't get them here. I'll try again when I get home but I'm willing to bet it does the same thing.

I've got to say that the flashing LED's on Spektrum/JR products can be a bit of a mystery. Yes, we know the conditions and the reason for inducing the flashing LED's after any low voltage condition, but I too have occasionally seen the exact same behavior that GScott has observed, although not as often. Does it mean that a low voltage condition existed ever so briefly upon switching on the power? I've attempted to clarify this but never did receive a response from Spektrum. In addition to having them flash slowly on power up I've also noticed that sometimes the LED's flash in an alternate sequence between the main and satellite RX.

I'd love to know exactly what it is we're observing and I'd also like to know if all of the LED's behave the same way on all current Spektrum/JR DSM2 RX's?

My 7100 does this when I don't cycle the TX power and turn on/off the RX more than once. I also had this happen once when I turned on the RX power immediately after turning on the TX. If I turn on my TX and wait about 10 seconds to turn on the RX it seems to start properly. I think the TX needs a few seconds after startup before you should turn on the RX.

I sent my 7000 rx in for the " quick connect " update a few months ago , and the sat and main units blink if the tx isnt turned off every time, but havent seen them do it all the time.

It was not having the transmitter on long enough. I turned on the TX and waited 30 seconds or so and then powered on the RX and it was fine. Is this something new that was done on the 7100's? I don't remember my 7000's w/ quick connect doing this.

Mine does the same thing. I've notice it when I don't turn off the TX. If I power cycle everything down and then power on the TX and then RX, then I get the solid light on both.
