Years ago, I would guess 1982ish, I had bought a Cricket, built it and took it down to a parking lot near Rice University in Houston.
I had heard there was a man that flew there pretty regular that could help me get my Cricket trimmed out.
I found him down there and he graciously spent some time with me getting the little Cricket setup and trimmed.
Before long he had it hovering smoothly and even took his hands off the sticks!
Anyway the reason I'm writing this is to see if I can find out what kind of helicopter he flew.
It was a low, sleek looking heli with a full body all the way to the tail. The tail rotor was up near the blade plane and was driven via what looked like a speedo cable. It ran along the boom until almost to the tail rotor then curved out and came back to drive the tail rotor directly (Not 90 degrees).
It had what looked like a cooling fan just below the tail boom area and if I remember correctly it had a flybarless head (could be way off on that).
I believe someone told me he was pretty famous and had won championships etc..
Very nice gentleman.

Can anyone help with the heli model?

Thanks

James

Agreed, sounds like the Horizon Heli that Hubert Bittner won the Nats with. See this post for some photos:

Yes that's exactly it.

Wonder who the fellow was that helped me?
Could it have been Hubert Bittner?

I remember that the helicopter he was flying was painted blue and that the people at the hobby shop told me that he had won multiple contests and awards.

I have pictures somewhere.
