I finally crashed my Lepton, big crash, phew, glad to get that out of the way... Here's a shout out to DocJoe for getting me started. I had to order from 3 different places to get the parts I needed and even then no one has the 425 bumblebee blades. Unobtaneum! Guess the Trex crowd is busy crashing their 500's as well. My experience was an ordeal so I thought I'd share. Get what you can from Helidirect HDX 500 parts, don't forget the bearings. Get some 68mm CF tail blades from them. And if you find that HDX parts are compatible please let Helidirect know so they can list them as such. Get blue parts from ReadyHeli (I saved $13 on the seesaw alone). Get the rest from MTA, they seemed to have the best stock. I couldn't get main grip thrust bearings. Still love my Lepton but parts are tough. Forget the stretch kit, the price to do it is frankly insulting. I'm going to 5 or 6 cell though, I got great 4 cell prformance from an AXI -8 motor and small pinion but it still loads up pretty quick. My other Heli's just keep singing away while I spaz out and I like that. Anyone want some year old 4s packs cheap? I hope this helps someone, Eric

Eric,

As far as blades are concerned, I've been using the Align 425mm CF blades. They work great on the Lepton. If you don't want to use Align stuff on the Lepton, you can go to Readyheli and get the SAB CF blades. They're on sale for something like 59 bucks. It's a great price and I'm using these on my 500 right now. They work very well and are my favorite 425mm blade right now. I still have a new set of MAHs to put really evaluate. But at least the new set of MAH blades I got from MRC fly sooooo much better than my original 2 sets of MAH blades. No more bogging during heavy cyclic maneuvers.

Wow that must have been a bad crash if you needed the seesaw. Hope you get it up in the air. After getting the right blades and going 6s, my Lepton has gone from one of the ho-hum helis in my fleet to one of my favorites. Even after a full year and a half of flying, I haven't replaced any of the head parts.

Joe
We haven't seen Colonel Angus around these parts for years!

OK, I'm going to get the SAB 425 blades from Readyheli. FWIW I prefer Radix flying type blades over V flying type blades. I used SAB's on my Trex and Shogun years ago and they were really nice.

Well, buying HDX parts for your Lepton is no fun at all. First, the tail boom braces are listed as a direct replacement, but they are 25mm longer and do not attatch via the Lepton's ball links so they are useless. The tail boom is a grainy silver color and weighs 6 grams more and is slightly smaller in diameter, I tightened the boom clamps and easily turned and slid the HDX boom in them, so the HDX boom is useless too. The main shaft should work but is is nothing like the amazing finish of the stock Hirobo part, and it weighs 7.4 grams more as well. It is the one part that is maybe worth it because it is 11 dollars less. Bottom line is Hirobo stuff is so fine that it would be a shame to start mucking around with cheap and or inferior parts. I've seen the HDX and it's a really nice heli, especially for the price. But so is the Hirobo and I don't want mine going all Frankenstein!

We keep most every Lepton part in stock. The only thing I can think of that we don't have is the frames, but can get them.

Very cool site! I love the way you listed the parts. You're prices look like the lowest I've seen. I've done a ton of busines with Heli proz and added your site to my favorites - for sure! Thanks

OK, I have all but the parts coming from MTA. So I give them a call and find out the parts are not in stock even though they are listed as in stock on the website, and they don't call or email to tell me the parts are out. Uh huh... The nice lady I spoke to told me she has no way of knowing what is in the warehouse until the order comes in? So I cancelled the order and asked for a refund and I'm giving Heliproz South a shot. So if you want to order from MTA call them, the website is BS. No worries though I'm just taking this parts circus one step and a time and telling you all my little story, whew!

Have you ever tried RC Champ in Japan, they've had every Lepton part that I've ever asked for...

No, Shipping might be steep but I'd consider it in the future. The USA is just so big and with so many shops that when I searched five or six and realized I'd need to order from at least 3 that I decided to document my parts circus. I lived in Japan for 5 years though and I am not surprised that the shop listed carries all parts. The Japanese companies are very thorough and with generally awesome support. Pretty much the exact opposite of my experience living in Europe! I'd rate the USA is somewhere in between generally, but what do I know?

RC champ is the best shop i know about japanese products. Unbeatable prices. You have to remove 30% of the Yen price in your manual. That's the price by RC champ...

You have to place the order using e-mails. Site is in japanese so nothing to do with that. But don't be affraid, it's very simple. And fast.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but docjoe, can you give us your current Lepton setup? Was it easy to get 6S in there?

So I think I'm done and then I realize the tail rotor bearings are shot. I admit to not being too bright! If you bend a steel shaft you probably destroyed the bearings it runs in... Hirobo sells the bearings alone for 19.78 and the whole tailcase with bearings for 22.99 so that's a no brainer. I found another site which sells other source bearings alone for 7.50 each. But I was concerned that they might not be exactly the same and with shipping it was ultimately cheaper to just get the whole tailcase from Readyheli. I guess flanged bearings are pretty exotic. I did get the main shaft and main grip bearings from Helidirect at a great savings and they fit fine. I found main grip thrust bearings but they were extremely expensive and luckily they did not need replacing. Finally, another HDX part listed as being Lepton compatible is not the same, the HDX spindle is about 2mm longer than the Hirobo part, nuts again. Whew!
