RJX Hobby Hurrican 50 - Xtreme 50 > New Kit Assembly questions

Hey people, I am just putting together my first RJX kit, and I am having trouble getting the fan and clutch assembly to run true. I am installing a brand new Redline TT.53 engine, and I have left the drive washer on the engine?? It also has the plastic fan. I have tried numerous times to get the fan housing to sit true on the bottom collet, however no matter what I do,... the assembly never seems to rotate properly. When I push the clutch up into the clutch bell and mount the engine, The clutch bell will not spin freely??, it turns the engine!!?? (perhaps the lining is too thick??) If I loosen the engine clamps and rotate the main gears, I can see the engine physically moving back and fourth as the assembly is rotating??

I just want to fly lol

I had a similar problem. I found out that when I tightened the nut, it was actually contacting the fan hub and causing it to get out of round. To fix this, I used a glow plug washer and installed it between the fan hub and the washer. This allowed just enough clearance between the hub and the nut so that when I tightened it I was able to get it under .002".

Hey dude,

Come and see me and we will hook you up with a the metal fan upgrade and get to the bottom of it for ya.

I'm sure it won't be anything too major as we've sold plenty of X50 kits in the NZ Market and this is the first I've seen of this problem.

RJX are awesome with warrenties and they would like to see anything that is not 100%.

Man you are going to **** yourself when you beat on this beast!

Regards

Hey guys, I got it sorted. It turns out at first I had a little epoxy residue left on there from gluing the clutch lining in, causing the clutch to grab. And I put a dial gauge on the fan housing and just worked it round with the t-bar until I had it under 10 thou. All bolted in now and seems to rotating smoothly. Won't really know until I fire er up!

Overall I must say that this kit is ***** INSANE!!!! i'm only half way through build and the quality of the machining has just blown my mind! It has to be, by far, the most impressive bird on the market for its money!!! (I cant wait to spank the pants off some 600N's hehe)

Should be maiden this week! One other question.... my tail seems to be really tight to move. Its not the link or the rod causing it but I've narrowed it down to the pitch slider. Any ideas on how to free it up? I will be running 8900G and I don't think it will handle the stiffness too well?

I presume it is something that just has to wear in a bit?

It should be relatively smooth, even from new. All three of the ones ive built up have been smooth, I had to size the ball links and make sure the tail guides were aligned properly but thats all. Then I just Tri-flow'd the crap out of it and went flying.. . How tight are we talking here?? Get grant too check it out if your not sure tho, better to be safe than sorry.

Disconnect the links to the grips and the link to the control rod and make sure that the slider moves free on the output shaft, then connect the tail control rod and verify it's smooth, then move back to connect the grips, find out where it's tight. It should run very smooth, you may find that the POM or delrin insert in the control rod assembly might be a little snug, this is ok and will wear in with no problems if that is where you are seeing it. if it doesn't slide smooth with the slider only on the tail output shaft, start there.
