I seem to remember somebody posting instructions on how to open a 10X case. I searched for it, but didn't find anything.

Anybody know how to do this?

I'm looking for this as well. I'd like to add a switching regulator to the 2.4ghz section of the transmitter.

I worry that I'll loosen some wrong screw that's holding some spring loaded part in place. And as I open the case "pa-ding..." something tiny and black will fly across the room, never to be seen again.

[I installed laminated flooring in my hobby room so that I could hear where tiny parts have fallen to. It's paid for itself in frustration savings.]

I have heard that the screws on the front (of the 10x) are cosmetic only. So there's some on the back and some in the battery compartment and probably some on the bottom. Which ones? I don't know how to guess yet.

Yeah, It's not like I have a choice.. The visage of that pristine green color PC board sparkling under my magnifyling lamp is a fantasy that will haunt me until I see it for myself. Colored wires, wrapped like rope, drape arteries and veins through a sea of chips and switches. Ribbon cables are little rivers that course data between the emerald worlds hidden within.

must... resist... temptation...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger (of course not everyone makes it into that second group)
I already pulled out a bunch of screws but nothing seemed to be coming apart so I chickened out and stopped.
I did notice the factory screws are not very tight, they obviously haven't seen a Finless Bob video...

Here's how to void your warranty:

Seriously, don't do this:

Pry off the module faceplate. I broke mine attempting to learn a technique. I bet the best technique would be to simply pry it off. It's got two tabs where the thumb grips aren't. I broke off both tabs trying to pry/push it off from behind. You're on your own here, but you want this faceplate off for sure.

Disconnect the module antenna.

Pull the module board off of the headers (pull straight off)

The four allen bolts on the top.
Three screws on the back, top left, top right, middle.
The two screws from the sides.
Six screws on the bottom.
Remove them all.

[Do not remove the two screws inside the battery compartment. In fact, don't remove the battery compartment even once it's apart. It's holding in the module mating board.]

Separate the two halves. You may need to slide the antenna base back a bit to make room for the separation.

Assembly is these steps in reverse order.

Don't use these instructions. Heck, even I didn't.

Ouch! Thanks for taking one for the team
The magic of CA should hold the clips on well enough to keep the cover installed.

If we could buy a few parts we could retro-fit the 72Mhz module.

The 14.1dbm label on the transmitter board concerns me a little, thats only 25.7milliwatts. I would have expected quite a bit more, unless the 14.1 happens to be an average number. I'll have to do a head to head range check against my x9303.

Looking forward to more pictures of the inside...

EDIT:

Popped my radio module cover off, mine was measured at 14.3dbm

The 14dB is the average reading. I have hooked up a 14dB marked module to a Spec Analyser and with the Antenna gain taken into account, its a 200mW EIRP output.

Thanks for sharing.

9387ASH - thank you for confirming its average power.
Now I don't have to bug any of my friends at the local telco to borrow some test equipment to measure it.

TheSteve,

Is your module cover (9303?) the same as the one for the 12x?
