Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > Raven 50 maiden flight!

Well. finally got the chance to bring the raven out today for its first flight.

overall it went well. got the YS50 tuned in a bit, still a little rich for break in. The only problem i had was getting the rpm's high enough, but thats just a revmax calibration issue. the only thing i upgraded from stock were the tail fins...i do a LOT of backwards flight, so i wanted to make sure i had the fins for it. but everything else at the moment is all stock, and i will be leaving it that way for some time.

Setup:

JR 8231 servoes on the cyclic.
Futaba 601/9251
Arizona regulator
revmax with 9253 on the throttle
YS50 with a century muffler, not a tuned pipe...yet. the one i want is back ordered.
funkey 600mm stock glass blades

sofar...i love it

im sure i will like it a lot more when the weather isn't so windy, and i have the revmax setup right so i can get higher then 1600rpm

that 90 paint job is pretty much my beater, it only took me a few minutes to paint, i just wanted something easy to see.

i plan to paint up more canopies, one for each machine, but basically make then "show piece" canopies, while these are my beaters.

Hi Shawn

I don't know if you saw a recent post about what's good to upgrade out of the box. I know that you have only just got your bird together but I think you will love it even more once you fit the red head dampers, put in the grey speed up gear and screw on a set of hotdog paddles. Mild-wild! These R all cheap upgrades and will really impress you.

i forgot to mention that i did upgrade to red dampeners....took a lot of blood sweat, tears, and a bit of cussing to get them in, but i got it.

this raven kit also seems to be a newer one, it CAME with the grey gear, new swash, and predator black paddles.

upgrades that i have standing by:

metal fan
carbon tail pushrod kit
metal tail pitch lever (already upgraded on the predator)

i cant imagine that this thing would need anything else...it really doesn't need any of it from what i can tell. i do love that little YS50 though. i found that once i started to get the needle in its sweet spot, it started sounding very much like my YS91.

get higher then 1600rpm

I'm currently not running one of my Ravens with any governor but my normal HS is running around 1850 (OS .50 Hyper) At Idel 1 she runs a cool 1950. I could actually go higher but it is already intimidating

I noticed you have the hurricane blades, throw on some 610s if you want some real agility. The hurricanes are great for autos and are really smooth, but get some 610s to let out a little more aggression!

PS The Raven with 610s at 2100HS is simply absurd!

those are not hurricanes, they are the fiberglass 600mm Funkey blades. later on thoguh when i can spair the cash, i will be putting rotor techs on. but these will do just fine for now.

my head speed issue is due to the revmax not being setup quite right.

They look like the blades that came with the kit? Are they not hurricanes? I always thought they were?!

maybe they changed it. but the package said Funkey all over it, and i already have a set of funkey glass blades identicle to these on my 30 (Bell 222).

as i mentioned, this is a newer (updated) kit with some minor changes, maybe the blades were one of them.

here are some pics of the funkey blades on my 30, they are identicle to the ones that came with the raven (minus the added red stripes)

Hmm, I don't know then. Here is the reason why I thought they were hurricanes...

i see what you mean, they do look very similar, but im 100% positive that these are the fiberglass funkey blades, as i mentioned, Funkey was written all over the package, and i already have a set that i know for certain that are funkey glass blades, and they are both identicle (except length).

here are pics of both blades from the century site.

top one is the hurricane, bottom Funkey.

yeeaa both made by Funkey and same mold, but the Hurricanes have more carbon in them, I have flown them both and they both fly very much alike but at times you can feel the Hurricanes are a bit quicker, the Raven I bought last year came with Hurricanes,, over all ether ones are good blades,,, and you can see them

Can we just call them the "silver blades" and call it a day?

well the package the Hurricanes come in will say "Next Generation" and say Century on them (unless they have changed the packaging in the last year),, see, like Rotortech the Hurricane name is owned by Century, but they have Funkey make the blades,,

the Funkey package will not say Century on them..
