TheSteve,

Do you have the 72+2.4 version of the 12x? From the pics in this thread I don't see any hint of a 72Mhz hole to plug.

I have the 2.4ghz only version. The hole is in the side of the radio, I guess it just hasn't been shown in photos.

The hole in the side of the radio is for storing the 72Mhz antenna, just like the 10X - I guess the 12MX will use it.

FWIW this radio feels great.

I just opened my package 10min ago.. Yeah that case is pretty much worthless. Oh well. I already have a case.

Ahh, that hole!

Say... What's the USB cable for? Software upgrades?

The USB cable is for Data Transfer to a PC. You can upload/download/modify etc the model memories.

HIGHLY UNLIKELY that there will any software updates. JR don't need to update (unlike some) !

Triggering the timer with throttle hold could be considered a bug that needs to be fixed.

Has everyone else had the stock charger go solid green? So far mine has gone from the slow blinking for a number of hours to the fast error blinking. Being the charger is only 250mah its hard to believe it would be a peak charger so not sure what they are sensing.
My battery pack is not yet charged, I know that.

Yes, my charger went green after about 7 hours. Since then I've cycled the pack a couple of times and now just fast charge with my regular charger.

Mine has been charging for around 10 hours and still slow blinking green. I guess the case was an after thought because it wouldn't have been too difficult for JR to have a formed piece of foam holding the 12X in place.

Two questions...

Is the backlight an on/off feature? If not, it is going to reek havoc on night flying!

For all of you electronic gurus- Do you see a way to install a touch screen in this radio?

Thanks,

The backlight can be On/Off/Auto. In Auto mode it stays on for several seconds when you hit the roller.

You might be able to install a touch screen, but there's no UI software to handle input from a touch screen. You'd have to write your own firmware. Having used the 9303, I knew the roller would be awesome/fast/intuitive. I don't see a benefit to a touch screen.

Having only used the touch screen and not the roller, I thought that I would miss it. But after setting up three models I found I did not. The way the menus are it became easy to navigate. The backlit screen is great ,I was coping the settings from the 10x and found the 12x much easier to see.

I have set up many 9303 radios and the roller/selector is a good feature for the majority of people. I am used to the 10X and can navigate faster with the touch screen.

Actually, now that I think about it, that isn't going to be much of an issue with modern day helicopters, engines, etc because I am not going to be messing with the curves all day like I was with the 60 engines!

Yeah, let's see... With governors, HH gyros, linear pitch curves, and flybarless (or even just CycLock or similar) you pretty much only need a rather simple radio these days. It doesn't even need to be able to do CCPM.

Here is my latest contribution. I decided to add a lipo to the battery. It balances better too.

So ironic. These DSM2 radios are doing beautiful sync'ed CCPM outputs and for all of my helicopters I have the radio set to normal swash, single servo... All are using onboard mixers.

Hey Eyefly, maybe you've already seen this but in case you haven't, they don't recommend using LiPo's in there:

Heads Up, Use the right batteries in your JR transmitter for best results

Warning concerning use of non-standard transmitter batteries

JR transmitters are designed to be operated on 9.6 volt Ni-cad or NiMh batteries only. Use of Li-Po or other power devices operating at higher voltage can add heat to the system, possibly overloading the power regulating transistor for reduced output. Despite what aftermarket battery manufacturers might suggest, use of non-standard batteries offers decreased reliability of your JR radio. Our service department has received failures associated with Li-Po packs.

NiMh cells, like the JRPB5011 2500 Sanyo pack or the soon-to-be released JRPB5014 2000mAh pack for the 10X and 12X. Charge these packs with the JRPC223 9.6 volt 270mAh output charger.

Balance is an issue, though. I just picked up an adaptor from one of the guys here on RR and it works perfectly on the 12X. Very well made, too.

Was just doing some testing with the R1221 receiver. The manual states it requires at least two of the three satellite receivers be installed to function. I found that you only need one satellite receiver installed to use the receiver. This could be useful when a bunch of satellite receivers aren't required but where you still want to use the R1221 receiver, cause after all we have it, may as well use it.

Now that I know the 12X doesn't balance, I will come up with a new Crackhead Nut® for the radio.

PS- moving the neck strap location does nothing for the balance of the radio for those who prefer to go strapless.
