Is there a thread regarding converting the MA rotor head to flybar-less and which electronics are being used?

I am thinking about converting my E-Razor to flybar-less,

Would the V-bar unit be the best to use??

Thanks,
Jeff

MrMel and THX1138 have converted a E-Stratus and a Ion-X2.
V Bar for certain. We'll see what comes out in the future as far as flybarless systems go.

flybar less

I have done my E Stratus also

I used the V-bar unit although if something else was avalible that was reliable and easy to tune i would try that also

I have beaten you to the Razor conversion Mines all ready waiting on the electrics only !

I think a V-Bar Razor would be the cats pajama's!! Go for it. I would certainly recommend the V-bar for sure. It is not the cheapest, but it is certainly the most adjustable and it has been out the longest. Mikado is constantly improving the software and it gets easier every time they update.

Jeff,

I've tried HeliCommand Rigid on both a 10s Trex600e and 10s SS Ion-x. I also followed MrMel's mechanical set-up advice to the letter on the Ion. See my thread at;

http://runryder.com/helicopter/t431622p1/

I found that the HC Rigid was very easy to set-up and worked very well in both cases. However, I found that is worked a little better on my 10s Trex600 and I have now switched it back over to this heli.

The feature I like best with HC Rigid, is that I'm able to toggle a pilot switch (i.e. panic button) to put it into horizontal stablisation mode and the heli will go into a nice level hover (with drift, and depending where it was, it might be an inverted hover!). I have to be honest and say that I have not had a chance to fully test this feature out yet (in a real panic situation), but it's only a matter of time!

I'm not really sure which flybarless system would work best for you, but I'm very happy with my HC Rigid.

Like Lou, I think that the Razor-e should rock flybarless. Look forward to hearing how yours and Dale's works out. Dale, are you going to use/modify the stock Razor grips (like MrMel did initially with his Ion/E-Stratus) or are you able to use the Raptor 60/90 metal ones?

Cheers,
TomC

blade grips

No i wont use those grips

My stratus has the tempest 3D head and the standard arms on the metal grips are perfect.

so i will use them onthe standard razor head and just shorten and redrill the link hole and it will be perfect !

its under way now

would really enjoy hearing how you guys convert the MA rotorhead - why do you have to put on different type grips. Is there some kind of diagram understanding of how to convert the rotor head.

I am a complete Newbie to flybar-less and definitely want to convert my E-Razor and also going to 12S. I think flybar-less and 12S will turn the E-Razor into an animal.

Thanks,
Jeff

Two things,

1. You want to make the link-arm be centered on the main shaft (no delta)
2. You want to have the link-arm at a certain distance from the main shaft (outwards)

The distance should be so you have enough cyclic pitch, but not too much or too little (+11-12 degree for full deflection is perfect), the further out from the main shaft the small cyclic pitch you will get.

Too much cyclic deflection and you dont use the full resolution of the servos and you stress the servos more then needed.
Too little and you can get a blowout on the cyclic (not fun)

Last you dont want the main grip to flex (hence better with metal bladegrips)

Like Mr. Mel said the metal grips are very nice to eliminate the flex in the blade grip. I choose the quick UK Raptor 90 grips because of cost and drop in fit. They require no additional parts and work fantastically. If you are interested, I have all the part numbers to convert the standard MA head block with all factory MA parts. In Mr. Mel's flybarless thread stanc is using the all MA flybarless head which is what I will be using on my flybarless stratus. Let me know if you need anything I will try to help anyway that I can.

MA Flybar-less

So, you can use the tempest blade holders and they work fine?

What about the washout - what part are people using,

I also see the epsrit guys are using Mikado blade holders on 600N heli. - wonder if those will work,

Thanks,
Jeff

I am starting my new Stratus build this week. When I get to the rotor head I will post in the MA forum. I'll let you know how it works out.
