Ya it was a good feeling doing backflips and loops
But it came at cost
had a flame out about 30 feet up and before I figured out what happened it was too late

It was worse than it looks in the pics the lower frames and servo tray frames were a total write off as well as the tail boom.
broke the flybar cage and of course the usual main shaft and spindle

any ways heres some pics enjoy

Rebuild pics coming next week

Happened last saturday 17 of May 2008

It was very windy and my header tank clunk was a bit too long so it caught some air while doing flips

Feel bad for your situation (about the crash) but it doesn't look too bad. Very repairable.

As far as something you said......

before I figured out what happened it was too late

I remembered when I first started this hobby, a friend of mine always reminded me to have a bail-out plan when flying. As I got better, my plan was always there in my mind and when I experienced my first "screw-up", I was prepared. Saving the bird was a joyful occassion then.

ah yes, the bail out plan. although i can honestly say i never PLAN to have a bail out. i have learned to react quicker. i have spent hundreds of hours on the sim putting my heli in every orientation possible doing every move i can, and trying to recover from it. even having a buddy randomly hit the throttle hold on me, or setting up the sim to have the engine fail at random.

when i was still learning to fly the basics, and i had a failure of some sort, my mind would just stop working, and i would just sit there trying to figure out what to do. mean while, my helicopter is busy producing a small crater in the ground.

flying up higher helps give you a lot more time to respond. i fly low to show off once in a while, but i dont do it a lot. almost everything i do is at a hight which i can easily auto down from.

by the way, how did the paint make out on those frames?

paint stayed on but one of the frames has a crack by the motor mount

I suppose I could flatten them out but they are very warped

Although I like doing 3D, I found out (like alot of us have) that Terra and my heli do not match. Hahaha

well if i was getting everything for free and had a whole pile of helicopters and income, i would spend more time near the ground

but i dont have any of that, so i wont risk it. esspecially if no one has a cammera for the aftermath

Ya I wish I was rich too

funny thing was I thought I was 2 mistakes high and I"m sure I was but my noobism got the better of me.
there was nothing I could do when the motor stalled mid flip
wish I would have caught it on video, made a horrible thud when it hit the soft somewhat mud

The crash site looked pretty cool pulled the good blade out of the mud it went in about 6 inches

when i had my JR Vigor, i had a tail failure during a stalled turn. my 12 pound 90 machine free fell full power prefectly vertical for about 200 feet. my 710mm rotor tech main blades cut over a foot into the ground before they snapped. the helicopter left a huge divot/crater in the ground. after $1000 and a complete rebuild later, it was ready to go.

$48 that's not bad at all! + blades....and people wonder why Century pilots stick with the same old design Fly's good, tuff as nails, and cheap to fix. What more can you ask from a heli....I know bell crank ccpm

Hey Dan, show off that polished aluminum. take some pics with the canopy off.

hehe, there is more to the story.

3 flights after i had spent that $1000 getting my vigor going again. i was doing some backwards flight. and since i was using a JR gyro, the tail swung around on me unexpectidly...i lost orientation, dumb thumbed it. and went into the pavement for an all out chicken dance.

brand NEW MP2, blades, frames, everything, it was almsot an entire kit. the engine was screeming around once the red hot clutch exploded and blasted everywhere. the blades swung around (what was left of them) and slashed my chins, burned my ahnds on the pipe (what was left of it) trying to pull off the fuel lines.

it was so bad, that the steel piano wire thats in the RT blades, was wrapped tight around the rotor head, it had been pretty much pulled out of the blades. the flybar was the same, everything had to be cut off.

i'll see if i can find the pics i took of the aftermath. but that was another $1000 crash...the hobby shop couldn't have been happier.

$2000 in parts for one helicopter in one month...

that is my biggest turn off for JR helicopters (parts costs), and their gyros (not being able to hold the tail while going backwards), i lost all confidence in my abilities and my helicopter after that. i nearly quit the hobby with all the trouble i was having afterwards. then i got the predator/freestyle, and i couldn't be happier
