Kyosho Caliber 30 & 60 - Concept - Nexus > Is this a good deal.....

Kyosho Caliber 30.
OS Engine.
GY-401 with the Futaba high speed digital servo.
Other servos are plain Futabas.
Futaba T8uaf radio
Stock canopy, plus new Huges canopy

The bird is perfect, flew 2 times, and has been sitting over the winter. Owned by my local hobby store owner.

He's asking $650, it's ready to go and fully trimmed.

He's a good guy, and he's the treasurer of our local club, so I know he's straight.

What do you think?

Nope... Caliber 30 is out of business in the US now and replaced with the Calber 3 and 4 (I reccomend a Cal 4 with OS 37 if you insist on a Kyosho).

For that price ($650), even less, I'm almost sure you can find a Raptor 30 in the classifieds section here on RR. Or if you can, better go for a 50 and check at your LHS wich brand is better supported in parts, just preparing for that frustrating first crash day.

I think $450 will be a fair offer for that Caliber 30 anyway.

Just my 2 cents.

Bob, take a look at this link, all that you need will be a Tx and negotiate a little the price and thats it.

Caliber

I would recommend you stay away from the caliber line all together. There are much better flying helicopters out there.

Caliber 30 kit discontinued, but parts are still available, as many Caliber 30 parts were used in the Caliber 4 design, and essentially all Caliber 4 parts are interchangeable with those of the 30.

-----

Futaba transmitter is OK, but not the greatest for heli use.

-----

You don't say WHICH 30 motor -- OS 32 SX-H or OS 37 SZ-H, it makes a difference.

-----

At $650, it's not a steal, especially with the servos and radio that are installed. The 401 apparently is teamed up with the S9254 or perhaps S9253, that's a plus. You have no idea of the health of the transmitter and receiver battery packs.

-----

I'd offer $450 tops.

-----

Contrary to the belief of some, the Caliber 30, and the rest of the Kyosho line, are not junk or to be avoided at all costs. Some people had bad luck with one kit many years in the past, and decided for no sane, supportable reason that the entire line of helis is crap. I've gone round and round on that topic before.

The Caliber 30 is a relatively maintenance and trouble free heli, parts are readily available for it, and it flies quite well for a 30 sized heli, especially if the OS 37 and good muffler are mounted.

Caliber

In response to irocu88 comments most people cant afford a caliber 90. Now while this helicopter has proved it's self for many years you cant compare apples and oranges. I have had 3 of the Caliber line helicopters and they are just junk. As to a smoother flying helicopter HMMM Xcell comes to mind, shall I list the many helicopters in this line and last checked these are the most used helicopters in competetion. Lets see what else is out there HMMM Henseleit, Avant need I go on. Dkshema and I have gone round and round on this issue and my experience is not limited to one caliber 30 kit either. The person thought to ask for input on whether this was a good deal or not and as long as can I will always stear someone to a different helicopter. Some people like them and others dont I'm one that does not like this line of helicopters and I will list the reasons if needed.

Enjoy the day for we know not what tomorrow holds
