Has anyone replaced there main grips with aluminum. During my weekly check over I found a fair amount of slop in my plastic grips. Are there any aluminum upgrades available?

If you have the same slop I had after my first gallon I found it was all due to the links on the grips. I changed them all to rocket city links and haven't had new slop show up yet.

I meant to do that!!!

This is in the bosses for the grip bearings. The inners are pretty loose. The bearings are ok. It may not mean anything. Does anybody else have this same movement? It has not affected the way it flys.

Yep I have the same problem. My heli has 45 min. of flight time and 1 grip is loose. The other is tight. This causes mu tracking to be off from flight to flight. Could not get hold of John today to tell him of the problem

jbrown2288 fitted raptor 50 grips to a tiger and it worked pretty well. If a pantera takes the same grip there may be an aluminum option.

Whoo.
What type of slop?
My stock Pantera grips have 5 cases of fuel whithout any problems.
Pantera two is also solid. Pantera 3 is golden as well.

subscribed, I too found a little bit of slop on the grips at the inner bearing.

I probably have less than 2 gallons thru mine. 2050 hs with a os 50 and 600 blades. The slop is at the inner grip bearing boss. Blades still track fine but I think controls would be crisper without this play. Acts like soft dampening.

Are you sure you have the inner thrust bearing races installed per the book? Both races look the same. If you measure the ID you will notice one is larger then the other. The Large ID race goes on the blade grip side, and the smaller race ID goes on the blade side.
If you have it backwards, things will work for a bit. Then you will start to notice "slop" and a possible out of track condition over time. It's worth checking it out, and lube the suckers before re assembly.

Checked the thrust bearings today and they are in right. I installed a set of raptor grips and got all the slop out but there are some issues. The ball is farther out from the center of the feathering shaft than on the Pantera grips which reduces the overall collective travel available to you. I still have plenty for a 50[+10/-10] but some of you big block users may not be able to get the +14/-14 that you like. Going to the field with it tommorrow so we will see how it works out.

I think +/- 14 is way huge. Collective management my friend. If our not at 2k main disk speed your going to bog the beast.
Look forward to the test update.

billm, I've read that some of the guys using the big block conversion like +/- 14. There is no such thing as collective managment with a 91 in a 50 size heli.

Got some flight time on sunday afternoon and the grip mod worked fine. Flips and rolls were crisp. Only issue I see is the reduced collective range. I would like a couple more degrees in throttle hold. I'm going to work on that.

Today I installed blade grips from a Knight 50. The slop is gone and tracks well now. The only problem is I only have +10/-10 pitch with out binding. This works for me for now.

Running 14+ is OK. You just have to manage it. Its awesome for the hard stop and pop effect.

I think I will just pick up some new grips. Might be a while as my Dads health is not doing well and my free time is spent mostly helping them out. Anywho...when I get an update, I will post back here.
