When using the blue one piece motormount in the Freya, should there be shims between it and the frames? Seems there is a gap there on my machine. I have put some shims there, but am fighting an engine vibration, and want to make sure this is correct. I have cecked hub and clutch runout, replaced the engine bearings and the clutch bell bearings, and checked balance. only thing I can come up with is the frame being tweaked from improper spacing.

Thanks.

Freya

I had the blue one piece mount on my Freya which I recently sold and did not have any shims between the mount and the frames. Had no vibrations either.

Yes there should be collars that shim from the inside (they come with the mount)and then you need flat washers on the outside.

SHLM is right. But there should be no shims. I assumed he would have in the stock collars and flat washers on the machine screws from the out side.

The plastic lower frames use the 2521-084 stepped collars on the inside between the frames and the mount and in opposite orientation to the way the are used with the stock two piece mounts. The carbon lower framed Freyas don't need those spacers; the engine mount is a slide fit directly in between the frames.

thanks for the replies. I had some machined washers on t e inside and the stepped collars on the outside. I will reverse this.

Any other ideas on a drastic engine vibration, which is mostly manifest in the vertical fin blurring? It is bad enough that at 1750 rpm, the bottom of the carbon fin
moves well over an inch.

This Freya is driving me nuts

Which engine?

What are the run out numbers for the fan hub, clutch base, and clutch tip?

Have you checked and/or replaced the t/r hub and output shaft?

fan hub and clutch shaft were all dialed in to less than .002". I have also replaced the tail rotor shaft and hub. This engine ran smoothly in my vigor, thus I am perplexed and am looking for less than obvious causes. The tail pushrod broke at the threads in flight, so it is getting all new tail shaft, hub and boom. I have torn down the engine again to check all runouts again.

It is a YS 91 ST. Running Magnum Heli Plus with an OS #8 plug. The piston looks good, so I am fairly sure detonation isn't a problem.

Parts should be in tomorrow, I'll try to fly again later this week.

With the plastic lower frames I made a set of cups that shim the mount to the right size. On the X-Spec I don't believe this was necessary.

Hi Juggy

Have a closer look at your Evo....if you are using the 1 piece mount, it has the stepped collar between the frames and the engine mount.

If you are using the std 2 piece mount, it has no spacers between the frames and mount.....

This thread was about the 1 piece mount.

Use the 2521-084 collars from the inside and the 2506-014 washers on the out side of the frame.
If you have access to a copy of the evo 90 manual go to page 31 step 29 on the lower left hand of the page and you will see a option box showing the configuation for using the one piece mount in plastic frames.

I put the collars inside and the washers outside, which definately improved the fit. Unfortunately, the vibration is still there.

Is it possible that detonation from too hot a plug or not enough head shim could cause this?
