Just when I thought everything was going well on my build I crushed one of the magnets while attempting to press onto my fan during my governor sensor installation. The fit was too tight to accomplish by hand and all I had was a set of vice grips to aid in the process. Needless to say, I managed to get the opposing one on unharmed but do you guys think I can get away with just one? I hate to ground my bird the entire weekend just for a tiny magnet waiting for it to come in because my LHS doesn't carry it. But again, sometimes thats all it takes. How many of you think I should go for it and who thinks otherwise? Its a Trex600N pro, if that makes any different.

Thanks in advance

Gov's arent required to fly, they just help a lot. You should have good radio backup curves just in case your gov fails in flight, and if you do, I'd just go fly anyways. If you don't, your gov may fail and you'll be in for a world of hurt. Always remember to setup backups for your 'automated systems'.

You only need one magnet.

The purpose of having 2 is for counterbalance, thats why they send you 2.
If it NEEDS counter balancing, make the heavy side lighter or the light side heavier.

you can get those magnets at Radio Shack.

I've been using only one magnet on every heli I have a gov on with no issues. The other option is to head to your local Radio Shack, they usually carry the magnets there.

try to rotate the fan on the hub (you have 2 positions available) in such a manner that the magnet is the the opposite side of the cylinder head when the piston is at the top of its travel.

This will minimize (and even reduce) any vibration you might have since it will play naturally against the vibration cycle of the engine.

Credit goes to Colin Mill from CSM (technique he described a few years ago and that works perfectly with only one magnet on the fan)

Another option would be to balance it and remove material on the side where the magnet is until it balances out. But then it would be off again when you install the second magnet next week.

I was asking more in terms of vibration issues.

GV-1 size sensors? I wasn't aware of that. I will check and see... thanks.

Call Radio Shack to check if they have them in stock this way you save a trip if they don't.

I always try to keep an extra set of these in case I throw a magnet or something. From reading the above posts it seems a gov will work with only one magnet but I was told that they won't. I was told this about my Revamx that it wouldn't work properly with just one magnet.

Tony,
That was some technical stuff right there. Outstanding advice! Of course I wouldn't expect any less from an rrProfessor. Thanks. I will definately try that if Radio Shack don't have what I need.

Eleven,
Now that's what I'm talking about. You even broke it down to part number. Helps out tremendously. Many thanks.
