Reflex MFC Application has stopped working < This is what I get after hours of tinkering with this cruddy sim. I got XTR working fine on a laptop with XP so I copy the whole folder on 2 cd's because its 811 mb , I put it on the C drive on my Vista pc ,not in programfiles but on the C drive. I dont see any installer excaept the interface installer for the cable. Any application I hit says Reflex MFC Application has stopped working. Im now crying on my keyboard but I didnt smash it. anyone help?

Why do you blame Reflex? Install it directly from the original CD and it will work. Copying only the directory will not work, because all the system files that was copied in the system folders are missing and so Reflex does not work of course. Like any other Win program.

Actually it does work and is the Reflex suggested workaround for installing on a Vista machine. You need an install that is already working on an XP machine. Just copy the entire C:\Program Files\REFLEX folder and all sub folders and put them in the same location on the Vista machine. If it requires more than one CD, so be it, just make sure all the files and folders are in the same location on that Vista machine that they were on the XP machine. Since the copy process from a CD will make the files read only, select the REFLEX folder and remove the read only flag. You don't need to run an install process on the Vista machine, just create a shortcut to REFLEX.exe and use it to launch Reflex XTR. I have done this process to help out my son-in-law, so I do know it will work. Hopefully, I didn't forget some detail.

@Ensonic
Actually it doesn't. You can't install directly onto Vista unless you have the latest release (5.04). Even Reflex accept this and state in their support that you have to install on an XP machine first and then copy the file structure across. This suggests that it doesn't put important stuff in the registry or System32 - rather it is wholly contained within the Reflex folder.

@pH7
From his posts (and his PMs) it does sound that he is at least trying to do the right thing. He has stated that he has copied the contents to c:\program files\reflex to c:\reflex. This should be enough according to what the reflex site and you say. The fact that it's not working either means that he has missed something or it doesn't work on all Vista installations. Unfortunately he's not too clear on what he has actually done (step by step) nor what the reported problems are so it's quite difficult to help remotely.

If you just copy the files across I was wondering how the USB device drivers get installed. My Reflex directory has a executable called ReflexHIDInst which appears to set up the interface. Does this get run automatically when you run reflex.exe or must you do it manually. I don't think this is the problem though (not yet anyway) - Reflex will start up and run without the interface - just can't fly.

Perhaps he's hitting file permission problems especially if he is not running as administrator.

Cheers,

Nigel
