Main Discussion > Hangar 9 Variable Load Voltmeter Question

I just got a Hangar 9 Variable Load Voltmeter, it doesn'n tell you what are safe volt readings to fly with. I have 7.4 lipo's and 4.8v nimh packs. What can I safely go up with and what loads do you guys test at. I realize the number of digital servos and flying style will make a differance, I'm just looking for a good starting point.
Please help.

With a .5 amp load, which is the load I think that device puts on the battery, anything that is 4.8 or above should be good for one more flight at least. This is assuming non-digital servos except the t/r.

With the LiPo batteries, anything 7.4 or above is fine. A LiPo will have plenty headroom for that last flight, even if you're running all digitals.

If you have a full load of digital servos and fly hard, I would probably recharge that NiMh battery between flights and use my charger to cycle it at least once overnight.

It's a good idea to hook up your voltmeter, raise the collective all the way and slowly move the cyclic stick all the way around to see where there might be binding. Lower the collective and do the same thing. Some binding in the extreme corners is normal at full up or down...just don't go there when you fly! The voltmeter will tell you when there is binding and you can see what it does to your battery.
