If you search for the registration number (N96MB) you will find that it also crashed in 2000 due to engine failure at low altitude. An interesting coincidence.

I believe that the older 47s had wooden blades. As long as they are regularly inspected, they are not life limited like metal or composite blades.

That had to be a heartbreaker but it could have been MUCH worse. Im a BIG fan of Bell 47's...actually my screen saver is of my scale 47G flying ironically a few hundred feet from where it appears the the full scale Bell took its last flight.

I was standing right next to the guy video taping and was one of the first to the crash. Was pretty scary and I'm suprised no one was hurt worse. The pilot kept adding collective and the heli would sputter/miss a bit. I was also suprised that he actually took off after the heli kept doing that. Maybe he couldn't hear it. I also have almost the same footage of take off, but threw the video camera to my wife once it started to drop and took off running. Pretty crap feeling to see something like that happen right in front of ya'.
