can anyone please describe hc's ability to do flybarless 3d? How does it track. Bell hiller adjustments. Pitch and roll rates etc?

I love these things!!!

Art,

While I'm no 3D expert, I've found that the Helicommand Rigid, using the Extreme flight mode on a flybarless heli, can do everything better than the flybared one. Roll rates are 15-20% faster. You will need to add some expo! The heli tracks very well, even in strong/gusty winds.

The HC software is not as complicated as the V-bar but this may mean that the V-bar one can be fine-tuned a bit more. I don't know. All I know is the HC has worked very well for me so far and has been pretty easy to fine tune.

I read that many people think that the built-in HC tail gyro is not that great, but I've found that it works better than my 401 so I'm happy with it. The secret I found was to make sure the HC tail gyro settings (in the software) use 100% heading hold (=10) and 100% holding power (=10 hard, no delay).

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Tom C

I flew a setup in Vegas

Art- I got a chance to fly that HC on the LOGO 500 in Vegas. It was every bit as solid as your LOGO. I didn't really bang on it hard, but I did find it to fly closer to a flybarred heli than your Vbar setup. I flew flips and rolls and some of my usual big air stuff with lots of piros. It felt like it flew more solid and didn't float like yours does, but it could be the size difference. Yours almost feels like a video game to me. Whatever the setup was, I was pretty impressed, and I am seriously considering it for myself.

flippin and dippin, flying tail to the ground, I fly my heli's like a rabid greyhound!!!

Thanks for the feedback.

The only drawback I have heard so far regarding the helicommand is the tail gyro. I guess it is on par with a 401. Other then that I have heard it is great.

Aaron, I have since gotton my Vbar to fly better then the first time you flew it.

I just hope that more flybarless systems start coming out. It's great technology.

Thanks for the replies,
Art K.

I keep reading about the helicommand getting a better tail gyro? Is this true? I believe at this point for the price, something that will do stabilization as well as flybarless (helicommand Rigid) for around 700 dollars is a heck of a deal.

Rob, update as mentioned in PM sent to you;

I've got my HC Rigid back on my Trex600e and, together with some beter tail settings, and it is working great (much better than my old fut401 imop).

I have tested the 'bail-out' mode as few times now(fixed mode on switch at 50% horiz gain on down switch, 0% pos mode on up (rigid only). Works pretty good imop. Puts the heli into a pretty level hover, with some drift, and you need to be ready to control throttle since depending on when you bail-out, you might end up in an inverted hover.

My only worry about this bail-out proceedure is that if the heli gets caught in any really high rotations, this might confuse the sensors, leading to a crash. HC support has warned me about this and suggestted I use Extreme mode (rigid with no stablization) which does not have these limits. That's what I'm using now (extreme mode). Kind of questionable about the benfit of stablisation for an intermediate flyer like myself anyway. Maybe a bit better for newbies imop.

Personally, while I've enjoyed playing with flybarless, I would not convert another heli until newer, cheaper, better, more user-friendly systems come out. Still, happy I've tried it out and like the HC rigid unit. I'm sure the V-bar would have worked fine too.

Cheers,
TomC

Did HC, update the tail gyro to better than 400 degrees per sec.?

Heli 770,

The in-built gro with stablization is still only good for up to 200 deg/sec. It's only ok for up to 400 deg/sec if you use an external tail gyro. With any of the stablization modes (pos, horiz, or fixed)

However, if you use the Extreme Mode (rigid only, no stablization) you can use any deg/sec you like for either the internal or an external gyro.

Cheers,
TomC
