alright guys! So its a little soon for be, but I am very curious. This summer, I'll be going camping to mammoth lakes, CA for about a week and a half, and with so much room, its gonna be great to fly my 450 when I am up there enjoying the fresh air, and open spaces!

Now the estimated altitude that I will be flying at is anywhere from 6000 to 8000ft high. (broad range, but thats how it is up there. Lots of lower valleys but still up high) Now is this too high to fly a small 450? If not, what should I do to really enjoy myself?

I live pretty much at sea level now (San Diego) AND I am expecting a performance drop because of thinner air.

Is there anything I should do programming wise? or setup wise on the heli to get it ready for flying up high, or just go for it? Also, if I do fly it up there, should I expect shorter flight times?

I flew mine in Vail this Christmas @9000-11000 feet.

It was super fun, and with a Jazz there was no reprogramming at all needed. Without a gov, I would crank your throttle curves up.

Basically you only need to increase your pitch a little bit. Expect slightly lower flight times due to less efficiency caused by kinetic losses.

I'm with Wingman77 on this- bring some pinion choices and find the best for you. Hot and high = saggy performance, but not needing air to combust, you can get the HP back by increasing the headspeed.

Try your basic setup first, but I'd bet you'll find it really sags. Alternatively, put longer blades on it.

Ground Speed

I live at 6,200' and fly at density altitudes of 8 to 9,000' on a nice day. Be aware of the ground speed. The same airspeed results in higher ground speed at higher altitude. With these small choppers they get away fast and get really small really fast.

ok thats good to know. I will definately be aware of that. I know that the winds are higher up there too, so it will be interesting with that also.
