I was soo happy this morning.. I ordered my Raptor 60 parts from Graves RC in Orlando on Monday. They arrived today (Tuesday) via DHL and shipping only cost $7.10, The fuel costs that much just to drive to my field!

This afternoon I put the bird back together from my Auto Rotation failure.. I made it out to the field by 5:00 PM ready to fly! Got three tanks in it before the Elevator Arm bolt decided to depart the airframe with out any warning..

How often do you guys R&R these bolts and put new lock-tite on them? I went thru the whole heli and re-locktited every fastener back when I rebuilt the motor 3 gallons ago. I check all the important stuff every time I have the canopy off (I had checked this bolt this morning, and it was tight..)

Oh well, enough of my belly aching.. here's the crash video

Uploading the video for the entire flight and post crash party now. Will edit and include it shortly.. (And I really liked those CYB 710mm stick bangers.. too bad they only got 3 flights on them before becomes splinters..)

Here's the whole flight, nothing specatular, I did my first wannabe tic-tocks, but of course it happened off frame.. Oh well. Looks like I got about 5 minutes of post crash commentary that I find interesting in an odd sort of way :-)

Just an update, All the parts arrived today via DHL from Graves RC in Orlando. Not bad for $15 in shipping..

While re-building a spare YS-80 I got from Wayne Brown, and moving a lot of my engine parts over, I found out I hit the ground hard enough to BEND THE CRANKSHAFT!! Whoops

If I hadn't damaged the crank case, I wonder how long it would have taken to find the bent crankshaft.. For that matter, I'm not certain I bent it on this crash. (Pretty certain I did, but wow..)

Is the 60 elevator arm the same as the Raptor 30 in that it has a washer that goes between it and the ball races in the collective pitch arm?

I got the size of that washer wrong when I replaced the one I lost for my 30 and my heli damn near did the same trick, only a bit closer to the deck - around 20 feet up, hovering about 20 feet away from me. She gave a little twitch in cyclic - I nudged a correction then... I've no control.. back flip etc etc. At least her engine was idling when I walked up to the heli...

All I can think of with my crash is that the washer had gripped the outer casing of the ball races, thus allowing vibration to back the screw out despite the screw being tight and the idler arm moving freely pre-flight.

I've been grounded for two weeks since the LHS is waiting to get some landing struts in stock.

EDIT - WROTE THIS BEFORE WATCHING YOUR FIRST VID! The arm is similar but the 30 doesn't have the push/pull double link.

This happened to me once when I just lifted off and heli came back at me so I always put a longer bolt in elevator arm and use loctite to make sure it never backs out again

I dont know how to fly just how to not crash !!!!!

Yea, I did put a longer bolt back in. The one that was in there only had about 1/4 of thread engaged. I'm guessing that the crash before this one damaged some of the female thread, and me going around torquing on it during pre-flight didn't help. It was just a matter of time until I got aggressive and wrenched the bolt free.

BTW, while it happened off camera, this is the first flight I attempted Tic-tocs on. While not pretty I was stick banging the crap out of the elevator control.

Oh well, almost got the bird back together between work call outs.. I was hoping to get it airborne today, but looks like it will have to wait till tomorrow..

Nice, long M3 bolt now installed, complete with correct size washer too

I'm jinxed though - the bloody clutch has cracked, and I've had to order a couple of new ones (no spare! D'OH)
