just curious i have a oil furnace that supplies my hot water aswell.
im looking to install a electric water heater and just tapp into the inlet[cold]and outlet [hot ]of my furnace and run that to a electric water heater the plumbers want to charge 3k they say i have to remove the coil inside the boiler but i plan to shut down the boiler during summer months

It can be a ''DO IT Yourself Job''. Its just a matter of using two "T" fittings and and 4 shut off valves. Basicly you bypass one system completly and use the other. Just have to completly shut down the one system your not using and kill the power or fuel to the furnace or eletric heater what ever your not using if the system is still running or heating the hot water that your not using and has no place to go when it expands you could blow the bottom of the heater out. dont have to drain it completly just make sure you at least depressurize it. check to make sure you follow the codes when you install the system. Down here in my town if they ride past your house and see a box from a hot water heater in your garbage they be knocking on your door to see if you got any permits for replacing your heater other than that should be no problem.....Keith
