Get ready for The 2008 SouthWest Heli Fun-Fly and Micro Heli Challenge! October 17th 18th and 19th 2008 at the fabulous Fort Bend RC Flying field located in Rosenberg, Texas. 25 minutes west of Houston with EASY freeway access. Full facilities with water and power and a 25 by 100 foot pavilion.

This event is a dual event. Come fly for fun or test your skills with your 400 or 450 class helicopter in the ULTIMATE Micro Heli Challenge! Six events to select from, fly your 5 best. The most fun you could ever have in a fun fly contest, guaranteed! Two categories: Novice and Expert with 1st 2nd and 3rd place GOLD cups with all kinds of goodies to go with them. For those of you who attended last years "2007 TREX 450 Classic", it was fantastic! This year, it will be even better! There will be lots of raffle prizes, plenty of food, flying and fun for everyone to enjoy.

Bert Kammerer has confirmed attending the event. He will be flying for Team Align.

Also we will also be issuing a Manufacturers Award out to the team that has the highest points ranking in the contest (criteria to be unveiled in the procedures list coming up shortly) for that Manufacturer. If you want to see how your heli stacks up against your fellow competitors, this is the event to be at.

Additional details will be announced as they unfold. Camping onsite will be allowed for the event. Hope to see all of you out there!

Absolutely!

Any 400-450 Class helicopter is eligible for this contest.

Blade 400
T-Rex 450
Furion 450
Rave 450

etc...

Two key rules:

The motor must not be larger than 450 class
Main rotor not over 30 inches.

As I mentioned earlier, wWe are also giving out a manufacturers award at this event. This means that all pilots who compete in either class will be representing their choice of model and those point add up to the overall for that manufacturer to win and measure up their helicopters performance against the others on the market. Equally for consumers, it is a great way to determine who has the best performing model and for manufacturers to see how they can improve their models performance/reliability and so on.

The Rave & Outrage G5 swings 350mm blades. Is that a no no?

Also the Outrage G5 uses a 6s 1300 Lipo, swings 350mm blades, motor is a 1700kv unit that weighs 58 grams & runs at a 2600 rpm head speed.... is that ok? I may be running it with a Skookum 360 flybarless setup too.

Just asking before I drive that fare to be told it's to insane to compete.

Thanks You

Great questions Lithiumstatic!

350mm blades = 13.8" thereabout.

The head on the T-REX is 87mm from grip to grip(not saying the rex could handle 350mm blades but using it as an example). Roughly about 3.4 inches which would put you over the 30 inch mark. So this setup would not be allowed unfortunately. I think the distance on the Rave from grip to grip is even longer, is that correct? The Rave can run 325's also with the scorpion 6 so it will definitely be a great competition machine.

Just a tip, you will want smaller blades for some of the events. 315-325 are just the right ticket. Not only this, but if you happen to put it in, that can become more costly unless you're fully sponsored of course.

As long as the motor is 450 and under, you will be fine. There are no restrictions on lipo and esc setup, so run what you feel will work best for you. One consideration for example: The extra weight of a 4S setup might not help against a properly setup 3-S 2200 setup as there are motor-batt-esc combinations that can meet and exceed that power.

Flybarless setup will be allowed. That might help you if you compete in the 3 min 3-D contest, flips and rolls, and possibly drag racing, but it will not provide any improvement in Musical Pylons, Egg Hunt, or limbo. So that is part of the challenge; To fly in the events that the pilot feels he or she can do best in with their preferred equipment and setup. There are 6 events but you must drop one so it will keep everyone on top of their game.

I just about have the rules and events listing compiled and ready for validation with event committee members (the events I listed up above so you can have an idea of what we will be having ). I will post it once it is complete.

Jeff, oh yeah.. It will be a blast! A good time to be had for sure!

Thank you very much for the detailed answers!!! Looks like I will bring a set of 325 blades and all will be well.

Yes the 6s 1300 Lipos sound heavy but at 198 grams each they aren't.

THANKS!!
