Give me your best bids. Dead or severely injured Futaba engineers will do as currency.

Looks like after blades, shaft and landing gear, it will become a very good trainer with cheap fuel cost.

And that gang is why I no longer use helis. Uffe, Sorry to see that my friend, I've been there and know what a sick feeling it is. Luckily, I had no camera equipment on board.

Either of the the 401 gyro or the 9254 tail servo failed. The heli started spinning like hell, my colleague hit the throttle hold but it was more or less uncontrolable (radio transmission OK though, so no drop out). We had to jump aside as it was heading right for us.

This has happend to me once before with my T-rex 450. Heli starts to spin, crashes and shows no signs of faulty servo or gyro. I blame the 401. I'm gonna run a test were i decrease the input voltage to se if the 401 is extremely sensitive to voltage drops. Strange thing though is that we run dual power sources and Spectrums dual battery receiver. Anyway, I'm going Spartan after this. Just happy it didn't happen while out on a job with clients around.

We had the video cam running, but it seems it didn't stand the g-force while spinning. After a few revolutions the image goes black, and then comes back when its back on the ground.

Oh man, soory to see that picture. Im just about to embark on a very similar setup for AP. Pleased you didnt get hurt and it didnt happen infront of a client. Suppose there is the positive side of the crash. As positive sides go....still sucks. Good luck with the rebuild.

it is the 9254

Hi Uffe,

Believe me, never use a s9254 again, they will fail in time, putting youre tail to one end an throttle hold won't help. Or replace it every 2-3 months.

Use a HS-5965 from hitec. It's doing the job with two fingers in it's nose.

Youre ship and equipment is to expensive to take the risk.

Well, it actually looks a bit worse than it really is. JR spares aren't to expensive, and the Mark IV will be working after some bending and an e-mail to Jody.

BUT LISTEN TO THIS:

Today we were out with one of our ultra safe T-rex 600 electric to shoot some real estate. After 3 successfull flights, of which one was above water, the speed controller cuts of mid air. No extreme power outtake, just normal hoovering. Erik managed to auto down, but hit a tree with the blades. Camera OK, heli quite OK except som bent rods and spindel axis and Askman mount broken in a few places. But I mean what's going on? Is someone after me or what? 2/3 of our fleet grounded in less than 24 hours.

401 gyro and 9254 is not a good AP set up IMHO. I know we will now see everybody posting saying they this this combination without problems but the 401 in my experience cooks servos. The 9254 is a boosted higher torque 9253 and as a result produces more heat in operation. Put the two together and you're at risk.

Anybody who is doing AP/AV should look at spending as much money as they can on the tail set up. It is so important and the 401 gyro has been around forever and is very old. Get something modern and good rather than something that 'will do'.

Sorry about your crash but rebuild with a good gyro/servo combination to prevent this happening again.

Paul.

Sorry to see your crash picture! The mount looks like it might need more than just bending back into shape. Why don't you just box it up and send it to me for repairs.

Yeah, but the ironic part is that the camera is the only item that's been insured.

I remember someone mentioning something about 9254 faling when I started this business, but I neglegted it and let it pass. Should have listened to the veterans.

Believe me, never use a s9254 again

This has got me thinking - my first crash when I was running in was caused by the tail servo (9254) locking to one side and sending the heli spinning into the ground. At the time I thought that it was the pitch rod not running smoothly through the guides. Of late (I posted this earlier) I noticed that the servo was vibrating - just before take off. I thought it was just an isolated incident but now it all makes sense - the 9254 is most likely the culprit. I will be getting a new servo this afternoon to replace it....

So what is the verdict on the "Best" gyro/combo for the GSR then??

My earlier post noting servo vibration: http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/...?highlight=9254

The 401/9254 combo seems to be a popular choice - see my earlier post: http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/...?highlight=9254
