The problem with aftermarket canopy changes is that people are usually very proud of what they fly. So if you have for example a 600N and some company came out with an aftermarket canopy that looked like a Synergy, I don't think anybody would buy it. People want other people to know what they are flying....for the most part.

Now, if you slightly modified and improved it but kept the overall look similar or familiar, I think you would have something.

I agree, I think they could copy the Vibe 50 Canopy, it sure looks nice. Kind a of a cross between a Synergy and Vibe 90 Canopy.

Not so bad

I have seen the canopy and I dont think it is too bad. It looks more like the 500 canopy. If you taper the rear section (mounting hole area) and put a different style windshield on it then you could have a sharp looking canopy. And then add a super paint scheme from DYD and you have a great canopy.

Did he crash? Dang I missed it!

It flies, right? So let the canopy be. If it made it fly better, then o.k..

Dave,
There is some truth to that statement however, If I was to spend that much money on something it has to be perfect in every way possible. And it better wash my dishes!.. LoL. Anyway, I don't like the current canopy myself. Its not proportionate.

Well, any time you can reduce "frontal area" or "wetted area", your going to get more momentum in forward flight, hence retain energy in vertical maneuvers etc..... For instance, why the hole in the bottom?

They did that for battery cooling on the 600, but left on the 600N and now the 700. Cooling for the engine maybe? the shroud covers that. It seems to me that hole is a lot of drag. They should narrow it up as much as they can, even if they have to make a bump to facilitate the main gear, extend the nose a little and make it more pointed. Something tells me that are all ready in production however.

I for one don't care how great it flies, if it doesnt look good on my coffee table, I won't buy it.

This is actually probably the main reason why I'm not interested in the ElyQ. The canopy is fine, however, I hate how it looks under the canopy, I simply hate the design.

I have to disagree with this, the synergy and stratus canopies are by far my favorite canopies, and if I could, I'd put them on ALL of my helicopters.

I would have to add the Aurora to the above as well but I agree completely!

This is my personal all time favorite!

To the manufacturer, it is critically important that they have there own Identity or what the marketing department call "product differentiation".

So they should not copy anybody else's.

They should just make it look unique and good.

I like the Avant canopy but I don't like the way it fits the Avant helicopter, for the exact same reason I have against the 700N canopy; half of the mechanics are still hanging out in the air. One of the main reasons I love the Stratus canopy is that it covers nearly ALL of the internal mechanics. It's a very sleek looking machine.

I agree with Dave about copying another canopy, of course you don't want to do that, but seriously, I just want it to cover up more of the mechanics

I don't find that canopy unattractive, but it's clear that the most important function of the canopy is to keep the avionics as free of nitro residue as possible. I'd prefer a canopy with greater coverage for that reason only.

Function over form, substance over style, always.

I fly a Synergy and if I could get one I would put a Synergy canopy on my T-Rex 500 without a doubt.

I have seen a 500 canopy painted like a Synergy with the windshield line from a Synergy. I liked it a lot.

I agree with Dave whole hearted about looks. I don't care if it has the fastest cyclic known to man and the most expensive part cost $5 and Wal-Mart decides to carry parts, if it doesn't look good I ain't buying one. Period.

You can accuse Augusto of a ton of things, but when he debuted the Aurora to the world he had some custom DYD canopies on those rascals and it got people's attention with a canopy with great lines. A LOT of manufactures could learn a lot from what he did at least on the marketing end of the thing in that respect. He needs to take a few cues from other manufactures in other respects, but that is a different story.

I really like a Vibe 50, except the canopy looks like it mated with an Aurora but grew some weird mutations. It has weird lines when you get up close to it. Yuk.

The 700 is just soooooooo plain.

Ummm, you're nuts! If such a helicopter existed, we'd FIGURE OUT A WAY to make it look like the best damned thing on the planet. Hell, we'd just put on a canopy from another helicopter!

Man if walmart carried parts and the most expensive thing was $5, and it flew well, yeah I wouldn't care about the looks to be honest. It'd be my beater though.

The problem is that the 700N is extremely wide spaced. You can't compare it to slim designed helis like the Vibe 50 (32mm), Knight3D (30mm), aurora, Stratus or Synergy. Those canopies just won't fit.

IMO, the 700n isn't ugly, just plain and boring. Too plain. Comparing the 700n canopy to the other 90sizes like x-cell, synergy and aurora is like comparing the looks of a plain boring budget japanese sedan to the italian supercars.

Guess what, they'll still sell a million of them, just like those Japanese sedans you refer to.
