Hi,
I have TorqMaster 90 Starter with 12vold addapter , it seem to be fine for my raptor 30 , but i can barley crank my 600 trex with YS50. So what would be a good starter for size 50/90 size with attached batt source.

The same starter you have now, just up the voltage.

That Hobbico Torqmaster is capable of turning over a 90 size engine.

This one has 14 NiCD cells in series, which is about 18-20 volts.
It starts anything.

I love my Dynatron with 18v Makita Li-Ion batteries! I turns over my .91SZ with hardly any effort. It lasts for a long time also which is very nice.

Hi Knight, In my opinion this is the best setup you can have, allthough you can do it aswell homemade with 3/4s lipos de 3700mah of flightpower for example.

I do recommend the Dynatron of Sullivan, but this because i dont have experecience with the hobbico starter.

Regards, Dave

I have the same "finer edge mfg" setup as AreA51tje and it is the best setup I have used. If you already have the Makita batteries it's a no-brainer as the bracket is less than 50 bucks. The starter turns over a 90 with no problem and the batteries last a very long time.

Same as Dood...

I use the same set up and has never failed. Turns my 90 over with ease and I only charge it every couple of weeks.

Quick...here comes my wife....hide that new Heli !!!!

I have a Mini-Max. Best starter ever. Small, compact and super powerful. Starts a cold 90 in a breeze. Had mine for three years straight and not a single hiccup.

BUT- before using it there is some customization required or it will blow up on the second start...

I wouldnt spend that much unless your using it around the house as well. I use a 18v shopfoce POS drill. I bent the suck on it so it cant drill strait, so now its been demoted to heli starting.

Mini-Max and 4 cell 4000 mah lipo and removable starter wand. Best combo in 15 years. Works like a charm.

Not my pic but same starter and removable one way bearing wand thingy.

I used this, except with a Sullivan Dynatron: works very well:

I had some tired 3s TRex 450 packs that I used for this.

The Makita adapter is a definite winner in my book. Batteries quick charge in 15 minutes and you can go weeks or months between recharges. Plus they are super durable and you don't have to worry about beating the s#$t out them like you do LiPo's.

Same as Dood(90 with nimh packs) and turns over my older engine perfectly. My newer 50 I have to still pinch the line, but after about 6 tanks it is getting much better. Still a way to go for loosening it up, but progress. That may have something to do with it also if your motor is brand new.

Man.... I had no idea what an addiction this was going to be.....

Wow I wanted one of those 18 volt makita attachments but ouch!!

69 for a battery and 40 for a charger?

thats $100.00 ! No thanks, Ill take my 20 12 volt gell cell and stay wired any day and put the extra $80 into fuel

I have never had the need for a start on the runway. (like you might with a plane)

My favorite. It NEVER fails and the case is big enough for a spare pack and essential tools. Plenty of power, speed.

Yeah, they are pricey, but for those that already have the Makita stuff, it's not that bad. The 1.5Ah Makita packs and the charger can each be found new on eBay for around $30.

I resisted going cordless for a long time, but since switching, I've never looked back. Its not even so much the convenience of being able to bring the starter to the line away from the flight bag. It's more just not having to get the flight bag close enough to the heli every time, and even then having to fight with the cord getting tangled with the blades.

Torqmaster 180 Starter with two 7-cell nicads. Plenty of juice to start my 50 and I assume it would turn over a 90 just fine.

Torquemaster 90, a couple of six-cell, 1500 mah RC car battery packs, KSJ battery holders...no problem here starting YS50/OS50/OS70 and even a cranky 90 from time to time.
