Ok, to start, Im no expert, but I do know a thing or 2.
This is my 2nd HDX450SE V2.
Out of the box it was very docile, great for sport flight, FFF was excellent. Great stability for a 450.
However Im trying to get more into 3d now.
So how do we liven a HDX450 up? Read on...

First up, dump the stock motor for something better. Either an Align 430XL, or better still like I did, a Scorpion 2221-8 on 13 tooth.
Get a good esc to cope as well, take your pick. Mine is the Scorpion Commander 45.
At least 20c lipos, much better is 25c. Go with a good brand, you wont be sorry. Try the new Outrage 3s 2200 25 and 30c. Ive tried the 25, heaps of pop and VERY light. 166g without deans.
Radix or V blade 315-325mm main blades.
Light carbon paddles, mine are 2g each.
Align 220mm flybar.
K&S tail blades, or carbon 62mm.
And the thing that made the most difference? Ditch the stock mixing levers, they are holding this heli back.
Either use the Align SE metal ones, or the Sonix Mini Titan ones like I used.
After putting these levers on, my cyclic range is 8deg, and my pitch (same as before mod) is +12 -12. No binding.
I have only test hovered in the backyard so far (since putting the new levers on), as Im taking this to a funfly next week, and would like to have it there in 1 piece lol.
My headspeed is around 3100-3200rpm, and I get an easy 6min flight with FFF, flips and rolls.
Just thought Id share what I found, as I still think this is an under rated heli for the $$$.
If you do the mixing lever mod, please post here how you like it
Cheers

If you bling it, they will come :D

Im dont want to know how to liven up my 450 I want you to give me tips about my 500.
Seriously though, Im running a 3700 4s and I think it might be either a 15c or 18c, im probly like you ive just started doing stationary flips and rolls near the ground, It seems not to bad with my pack but a few days ago my tail blew out a couple of time during hard flips, I think, at least im hoping that a 4s thats 25c or 30c will be enough, maybe you might know this. at the moment im a bit worried about doing lets say a backward flip and then straight into a roll just incase the blades bog and my tail goes, beleive me when it happens it scares the hell out of you when your only at 10 ft or so, im not good enough to do piro flips yet specialy when they happen unexpexted and out of the blue, its ok on the sim when the consiquences are not so dire.
In my iddle up 2 pos im running 100 90 80 90 100 with about aprox 9-10 both ways and so far it hasent happened for a while, but its always on the back of my mind and causeing me to hold back all the time(this is not good)..
Maybe sometime we could get together with alan up at his block we get together regularly, and you could have a look at what my heli sound like when im doing hard flips and see if you think i need more oomph or not, or I live on a block also we could have a fly here whatever, be interesting to see how your hdx flies and love to see your other helis too.
P.S. have you got many of those 4s outrage`s in stock, im having a bit of trouble getting 150 bucks together in a hurry, could be a week or two before i can get the money together to grab one.
thanx arron.

Yes we have a few 4s Outrages in stock right now.
The tails have always been the weak point on the 500. Run the carbon tail blades. Get the gyro gain up around 85%. Set your Idle up to 100 100 95 100 100.
Thats all I can suggest right now without seeing what its doing.
Off to Coffs Harbour tomorrow, so will have to catch up when I come back next week.
Cheers

flown a few flights now stationary flips, sometimes been delibrately throwing it sideways whilst the nose is pointing skyward if you know what I mean to really load it up and had no tail blowouts, starting to wonder if it was my shaky thumb, but I did increase the gyro limit ever so slightly so maybe thats all the prob was. Also my main gear seems to have held in without stripping so far after a fair few flights. so far so good, Im realy loveing this little heli more than any of the nitros ive had over the years, but I havent crashed it yet so dont know how much of a bastard they are to rebuild.
thanx for the reply
