We have been shark-surfing for years on the Texas gulf coast. I am suprised more people don't know about it.
Road-kill makes the best bait. I prefer to use a cotton rope because it will not harm the shark or environment since it breaks down quickly.
I posted several videos in a series on break.com years ago.

A friend of mine...

He is able to actually lasso the Dolphins that swim along the bow wake of his fishing boat. He sits on the edge of the railing with ski
's on his feet and when he gets the noose around one, it yanks him off the boat and he can ski around for a while until the dolphin dives too deep.
I don't dolphin ski, though, I think the dolphin dies from having the noose clenched down around it.
We do all sorts of crazy stunts here in Texas.

In that whole video you only saw the dorsal fin, never the tail fin....

That's how I've always been told how to tell the difference between dolphin/porpoise and shark.

One fin, it's a dolphin. Two fins, get out of the water!!

Looks fake to me.

I was surfing once and saw two fins side by side, no tails, about 40 feet away. I said to myself, ahh just a couple dolphins. When i looked over again i saw four fins no more than 15-20 feet away. Needless to say I put my feet up on the board and watched as two 10ft(maybe a bit bigger) hammerheads cruised by. One in front and one behind me. Can you say surreal. Now heres the scary(funny) part ,after taking a 30 min munchie break we went back out to the third sandbar. I was just sitting there bobbing and a f*cking blue crab clamped onto my foot and scared the crap outta me.

I dont surf much anymore
