Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > RAPTOR 90 I'm soooo glad i didnt get a 90..not ready for one yet

Here's a post on the E620 Thread..Just thought ide share this in the Raptor 90 section.
i was thinking of getting a Raptor 90 and i post numerous threads on advice...i'm sure glad i didnt get one...Read my post below.....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I went from a Esmart 600 to a Raptor E620.
My Esmart 600 was a very Mild Heli....i would take her to the Park and Fly no problems at all...Just Hovering and some Mild Pattern Flying..
Head speed was decent and Heli was setup pretty Basic.
Enjoyed Flying her for like 2 months...Then i Decided i wanted a bigger Heli so i was looking into a 90 size Nitro..Turned out that i didnt get it and ended up getting a Raptor Eletric E620 instead cause i wanted to stick with Electric...This Heli is equipped with TT C. Fiber 600mm Blades, C. Creations 85hv, 10s Battery, ( 2 5s evos 3700mah , Z-50 Motor and all my other Electronics.

Well i took "HIM" out to the park and it was all setup correctly...Turned it on,,,SPOOLED it up and as soon as those Blades were Spining i was Almost at the craping in my Pants Mode.....but not there yet.......so i'm spooling up and it lifts off ground about 2 to 3 feet...Every time i moved the throttle of Rudder or anything i touched,,,,Every inch was such an aggressive response....I could not keep it still for nothing.....For the most part it's stable but if i just TAP the Ruder it really responds like Crazy....if i let up on Throttle just a TAB,,,the Heli wants to Haul Ass.........WFT,,,,,and here i am initially looking for 90 size Heli...What the Hell was i thinking....!!!!!!!!

If anyone has this E620, please give me some feedback on how to tone this Beast down or i'm gonna be forced to sell it and just keep my Esmart 600....

I have a Futaba 6EXHP 6ch 72mghz with PCM RX

My Transmitter Settings are something like this
D'R
1=100%
2=100
4=100

Exp
1=0%
2=0
4=0

EPA
1=both Throttle up and down = 100%
2="" ""=100
3="" ""=100
4="" ""=100
5="" ""=100
6="" ""=100

Trim
1-4 is at "0"

N-TH
1=0%
2=25
3=50
4=75
5=100

N-PI
1=30
2=45
3=55
4=80
5=95

Idle up is disabled for now.....Dont even try to talk me into turning this Motha on....Noooooo way..Not until i get this beast tuned down...ha ha

Gyro
-60
+80

Swsh
3-5
that's ok

If anyone can shed some advice,,,please do...I'm not even Fly it anymore until i get it toned down...

Thanks

Reggie

turn the dual rate down , set the switch to 75%/70% then find what suits you best (you can have the same effect by reducing the epa on the elevator and aileron (cyclic left/right forward/back))
turn the throttle curve down and set idle up to 70% epa and adjust the head speed to one youre happy with (and fly in idle up also set the throttle hold so that the motor stops running)if/when you crash make sure you turn hold on
set some expo in start at 5-10%
turn the rudder epa down this will slow the piro rate down (turning the head speed down will also slow the tail down)
ask at your local hobby shop/go down to your local club and ask if somebody can help you set it up

and fit the std black raptor 30/50 paddles onto it, this will slow the cyclic down

ok i'll try that..Some also suggested i modify my EXP to read -30% accross the board.
I hope this works..I dont want any Idle up at this point..i just want to use my TX and have a Normal Throttle and Pitch Curve but very Mild.

I'll try those setting and try and again...

Thanks

get some different paddles like the white or black TT paddles. thatll make it more stable and slow the controls some. add expo on the cyclic. the high headspeed will keep things stable once you change the paddles.

Paddes? What in the world will paddles do...I never heard of that...Why would Paddles make every movememt of my Radio too responsive...

because the lighter your paddles are the more responsive the heli is, the black paddles are 50 grams the white is 25 and the blue green and red ones are only 15 grams and due to the less wait the helicopter can move a lot faster. trust me going from black to white or even greens you WILL feel a whole load of differnce. it is like going from 0.2 servos to 0.1 servos the chance is that much

also add expo on a futaba i think you go negitive to 30 % but iant sure on this and another thing u can do is reduce the atv of a servo this 2 will calm the heli dwn

ok i will have to try that......didnt mean to explode on the Paddle thing...ha ha....
i'm trying different setting on my Transmitter first tho before i actually change any blades to see how that works,,if that's not enough, then i will take that advice and get some more Paddles to see if that helps.....Seems like all these New Larger 50, 60, 90 size Heli's are made only for 3d these Days...Seems like the only thing Heli pilots like to do is Flip over and Roll over and Twist and Spin around like a monkey in the Sky....Where did this Concept of 3d come from anyway..What ever happen to Pattern Flying like back in the 90's...ha ha...i guess i'm old Fashion huh?
Maybe i'll try and 3d stunt one day..it does like it would become addicting..

To tame it down on a Futaba the expo should be negative. The advice about -30% is a pretty good starting point.

Pattern is for planks and scale helis.

You're right, 3D is where it's at right now and manufacturers are making what sells, period. ANY heli can be de-tuned, both mechanically and via radio so why handicap it out of the gate? Better to have and not need than need and not have with regards to 3D performance.

Once you get used to your heli, trust me, no amount of power is ever enough. Your brain will get used to handling the pop and stop factor as well as pucker factor.

I like that one Jagnz...Yu speak well..ha ha
yeah maybe ur right..once i do a 3d stunt, i'll probably want to do another then another.......But in the mean time my goal is to tame it down..and from what your saying and from what i have been hearing about this E620 is that it's just as powerful as a nitro 50, even a 60...so wow,,i didnt realize i got such a Heli.......I guess they built this with the 3d enthusiast in mind.
well i'm going to fool around with my exp and make it -25 and lower the D'R and EPA's. Probably for my EPA's,,i will make it 75 alll accross the board..my main concern is when i go up and down...that's really the only thing i want to be more,,,,,NOT SO RESPONSIVE....

A 90 is actually more stable than a 50 size heli due to size and weight. I can set my 90 up to be as tame as a 30 size trainer or liven it up to fly hard 3D. Proper programming and mechanical set up is the key to get a heli to fly the way you want it.

the idle up is used to keep a constantish head speed and to fly with the pitch
if you use throttle curves on an electric the motor cuts in and out quickly and the tail will swing around and it wont fly to well
set the normal mode throttle curve to 0,30,45,70,70
and the idle up to 40,70,70,70,70 and see if the head speed is ok for your style of flying adjust to suit
the idle up is not just for 3d flying

Thanks guys,,,i was able to tone it down a lot...Those settings really helped...WOW...It's really like a Rock stable machine sitting in the Air.
I didnt realize how smooth this Heli can be...I will have to fool around with that constant head speed Gov mode..i do agree that the tail can spin if givin the right Throttle punch..and it can get out of control....With a constant head speed, it's more likely i can go up and down without the Tail gettn out of control,,,so i do agree there.....WOW,,,Now i can only imagine what a 90 size Heli toned down will feel like..

Has any one had a Joyful experience Flying a 90 size Heli for the first time? That is a remarkable large Heli...You must have been nervous at the same time amazed to see that large Heli with those large 700 - 710mm blades with that powerful Motor Roaring as you hover it......WOW i wanted one soooo bad...it was an obsession for me for months...I still want one, just for the simple fact of having it..Even if i never Fly it...

I have this E620 which is a nice Stable Heli and it's Fairly new and It's nothing like my Esmart 600 which is a 30 size heli...My emsart 600 is very very light and take a simple 5s battery and it's easy and fun to Fly. 520mm Blades..

The E620 has 600mm Blades and takes 10s batteries and is much heavier...
I can only imagine what a 90size will feel like now.....
I guess one day my dream will come true and i can get a 90 size one day.....The guys were right tho,,,,,,if i got that 90size instead of the E620 i wouldnt have been able to handle it....i would have been really nervous trying to hover,,,,,Even if it were tamed down....
Well,,,,,these are my comments for the day....i really would love to read some experiences of those who have a 90size and the experience Flying it for the 1st time.....

My first 90 was my Raptor 90. Scared the living sh1t out of me the first time I spooled it up. And I was pretty experienced by then too. I don't know of anyone NOT intimidated by a 90 the first time around....well done and stick with it.

That's awseome....So it really scared you huh? How long did it take you to get use to it to the point where you just Fly and not worry any more....Was it days, Weeks, Months? Just curious that's all...When i get my 90 this summer hopefully, i just want to know how long one can adjust to Flying such a large Heli....
I never had a Nitro before....So this may be my first one....

90s are big, powerful and intimidating, no doubt about it. At the same time though, they are very stable and hold rock solid in a hover even with gusting winds. In that respect, they give you a feeling of confidence when flying in wind that you wouldn't dare attempt to fly a 50 in. I think the ket is start with a low headspeed and always keep your distance from a 90. This way the sheer size of the bird becomes less of a factor.

Trust me, once you go 90, you never go back!
