Well i started my build last night.
Quality is good, manual is not (its ok for me as i'm experienced builder).
Damn those frame nuts are a pain.
It misses out certain areas where it needs loctite, too many pictures and not enough written notes.
The tail shaft slider would not slide on the tail shaft, i had to sand down the shaft and remove the black coating to get the slider on and move easily (1200wet and dry). Also fitting the bearings on the tail shaft i had to tap/press them on (no finger press fit here) i am unsure if it was prior or after but the tail shaft was bent! I managed to true it with my calibrated eye ball.
It will be ready to fly on Saturday!
I can't get over how light it is! Its crazy, this is gonna rock, very simple design.
Also it had the metal motor plate and .7mod gear. I used nylon bolts on the skids so if i crash it won't rip part of the frame off!

Go to helifr**k.com and look at the build video in the technical room. It's really good on things like that. My current kit has very tight metal and bearing tolerances but the video was very helpful. Of the entire build, the frame nuts, however, are the biggest pita of all. If you can't find it, send me an email pm and I'll send the link.

I don't have time to download and watch the videos at the moment.

Like i said the quality is good but the manuals lacks a bit. I would have expected the tail shaft slider to slide on the shaft.

Thats the only problem during the build, I am just doing head and electronics tonight

I had trouble with the tail shafts and bearing fit on both my 500 and 600. Wet-and-dry and brute force worked for me in the end.

Pretty disapointing when all you here about is mikado being quality. Overall I am impressed but it still was irritating.
Seem to be common with the tail shaft.

Any other things to look out for? Thanks

Make sure you mate the frame sides well or you may have problems with the tail boom slipping. I don't care what anybody says, When you sell thousands of helis that have hundreds of parts, they will have some build issues. Overall it is a quality kit though....Ron

One more thing are you sure that 550MM rotors are ok stock? As the main rotors look like it could contact the tail rotor??? I installed 80MM wide chord tail rotors just in case.

I have just kinda accepted the main and tail shaft sanding as a
Mikado thing; had to fight that on my first L10 build too. Don't know
why they are still putting on that black coating, (sticky, almost!).
Never remember having to do that with any of my JR machines.

As far as the 550's, yeah, I thought the same thing, and I would not
have tried it, except that I went ahead and trusted the advice of guys
like Anthony, Shaun, Ron; and they do work just fine. Just keep a good
watch on your dampers, and replace when they start getting at all
sloppy.

The main shaft did not need sanding that was all good, swash and washout slides nicely.

Are the dampers just a o-ring either side (yet to build head)?

The 80MM tail rotors are a bit shorter so i feel a bit better. Also i only sport fly so should be right.

One thing i can't get over is how light the airframe is!!! It weighs nothing. So simple yet effective design

Yes, they are O-rings; set of 2 per side. I am happy w. how stiff the
head is w. the stock ones for now. But see Anthony's (Jag72) post on
the K-B dampers. They look like a good upgrade you could always have
on hand for later.

Oh, BTW, hope the maiden goes well Saturday!

Thanks for the info, I only had 6 hours sleep before work, i was up late building it.
I will get up nice and early Saturday and finish it. Looking forward to it.
Also any idea on weight with all electronics and battery in KG?

Don't know on the KG, you'd have to convert, but mine, RTF, with 550's
and 6s 3700 lipo is 5lb 14oz.

Thanks, i think with the 5000MAH 6S pack it should weigh in at 3KG. Much lighter than the E550 i have (Thunder Tiger)

I didn't have to jimmy rig anything on my 500 3D, the tail assembly went right together for me. Yep, the frame is light alright though.

The boom clamps went on well, just tighten each bolt a few turns one by one, boom not going anywhere, can't imagine why people have it slipping.

Any comments on the hole position for the head? I think its for the flybar, is the quicker response really fast?

These hitec servos won't fit as the brass inserts are too small. The servo screws supplied by hitec are too small to screw into the frame and the ones that came with the heli are too fat to fit through the insert!
HS6965 servos.
I may try to drill out the insert .1MM unless any ideas?

If you use the rubber mounts without the inserts it will be fine. Also make sure you use a pan-head screw(one that has a fatter head) so that the servo cannot slip over the top.....Ron

Hi All,

On the weight, RC Heli and Radio Control Helicopter magazine each did a review and came up with exactly the same weight with 5000 mah batteries -- 6 lbs 5 oz (2.9 kg). But they were using the plastic canopies. I've heard they now all come with fiberglass.

I was hoping it would be a bit lighter because I'm putting all the equipment from my Swift in it. My Swift was 6 lbs 3 oz. So the Logo will be a tad heavier.

Keep 'em flying.

LJS, that plastic canopy was VERY thin so I do not expect too much difference in weight when they use the FG one. BTW did you get it yet?

Hi Ron,

No, I'm still waiting on it. Esprit had all the parts I needed, but they deliver by Pony (Federal) Express, so I've still got awhile to wait. The wait is killing me though. I really looking forward to building it and paint the canopies. I ordered an extra canopy so that I could paint two at once. Killer price on the extra canopy -- $85!

But it should be worth the wait based on everything I've heard. It'll be nice having two helis for when I fly at lunch. I can fly my Logo 500 while I let my 600E cool down a bit and vice versa. I've been going in to work early so that I can take a two hour lunch. It's easy to get six flights in in that amount of time.

I've already watched all the Finless videos on HF. I think I'm going to enjoy building while watching the videos. It should be pretty stress free.

I think I'm going to set it up for 2100 (IU1) and 2200 (IU2) rpm. What do you think?

Keep 'em flying.
