its a second hand engine i had and have installed in my acrobat, there seems to be another noise but not engine noise, dont know if it the fan thats built in to the pull start, any ideas, could it be the bearings in the engine? ive only ever had nitro engines. the engine revs ok and seems to have power, is there any signs to look out for? ive noticed that when i try to cut the engine with the transmitter (throttle cut switch) it doesnt cut the engine even though the carb is shutting all the way. ive just put a century v3 exhaust on there and a k&n aqir filter so was not sure if that was something to do with it.

Probally the bottom head bolt has come loose...Use good lockwashers on your bolts.
The noise will sound like metal rattling, which it is, the piston is offset because of the bolt loose..

Tighten the bolts, heat the engine with a heat gun before you tighten the bolts, and use locktite...
You will have oil leaking where the head and case meet if it continues to leak.....

I have had upper bearing screech on a 230RC, recently. I took it apart and the crank was getting polished, the bearing was blackening, a sign that it was seizing. Since then I have upped the oil to 3oz of amsoil per gallon, from 2.5, and replaced the crank, bearings, and seals. It was making just a minor screech noise, eeire and hard to track down.

Is your engine leaking from the base gasket, like most do? I have gone to a homemade gasket design from 1/64" sheet and red permatex spraycan gasket sealant. Zenoah needs to revise the gasket sealing issue.

Billme, can you please fit a honda GX25 to an Acrobatic, I'd like to see a good 4 stroke implementation for these

That strikes me as an intake airleak also - I know the carb bolts were a little long for the resultant stack of an aftermarket K&N style air filter and carb on the G26 I was wrenching on last year. With my Predator I put the Z-RC carb manifold on and got the right lenght bolts from the local hardware store. I'd check that out 'cuz if you have an airleak you'll burn the engine up with a lean run (speaking from experience)

...yep...

At the base of the head where it meets the crankcase,,,,

You can still get it started,, but it will take several pulls on the pull starter,, or you can take the airfilter off, then choke it to get it started for the first time then put the filter back on,, I know this sounds like alot, but it's not that bad,, I run the hanson filter without a choke, and I get mine to start but after 10 to 12 pulls before it starts,, They do make a filter with the base that bolts on to the carb with a choke in it,, I have one on one of my Xcells... hi
another option i have heard people use , is place a small plastic bag and a rubber band over the airfilter , this will let you choke it , HTH , dana

ive just taken the carb off and the gasket is a bit torn at the bottom.so i think the gasket may have been blocking of the little fuel holes or allowing air into them, will see if i can get one from the lawnmower repair shop tomorrow.
thanks for the advice so far.

If the outer carb screws are too long, they will impress the inner gasket, and distort the assembly to allow air in. The solution is to shorten the outer screws 3mm or so if this is indeed happening (reflecting on jschenck's post earlier).

Unless you run the aluminum block with teflon gaskets, you may use gasket sheet from an auto parts store to make an equiv. gasket, just don't forget the pulse hole, very important. The other option is to run the upgraded teflon gaskets with an alu. block, or teflon gaskets with the regular block, it is an improvement.
